It is with deep sadness to announce that Rosemary Sawlaw, retired Sheriff’s Administrative Assistant for the Piatt County Sheriff’s Office has left this earthly world to be with our Heavenly Father. Rosemary worked for 32 years as the Sheriff’s Administrative Assistant working under three Sheriff’s including 5 1/2 terms alongside her husband, Sheriff Forrest Sawlaw. Rosemary was an amazing lady and will be truly missed by many. She will always be well known for her kindness as well as the goodies that she provided quite frequently for the employees of the Sheriff’s Office. She “loved with food” as her daughter Emily always said. Rest in Peace Rosemary! ❤️🙏

As part of our continued commitment to public service and our support of youth and education, the County Sheriffs of Illinois are proud to announce the recipients of the 2026–2027 scholarship awards. This year, 122 students statewide will receive financial assistance to continue their education at accredited institutions of higher learning.

The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association established this scholarship program in 1979. Now entering its 47th year, the program recognizes students who demonstrate academic achievement, community involvement, and strong character. It stands as a testament to our belief in the power of education and the importance of investing in the next generation.

With the support of our County Sheriffs and our Citizen Membership Program, we are proud to award $63,000 in scholarships this year, helping students take the next step toward their goals and future success.

A sincere THANK YOU to our dedicated Citizen and Business Members. Your continued support makes programs like this possible and strengthens communities across Illinois.

Thanks to Piatt County Board funding through a portion of their awarded Opioid Settlement Funds, a new service is now available to our County residents. In a collaboration with our friends at the DeWitt Piatt Bi-County Health Department, Piatt County residents can now safely dispose of their sharps in an outside sharp collection box, which will be located and serviced at Health Department’s Monticello office. This is just another great example of County Departments collaborating to better resource our community.
