🇮🇪 Good Friday traditions in Ireland 🐇

✝️ Fasting - Today is the most serious day of fasting from the Lenten calendar. Some devoutly Catholic will not eat until midday and even then will only have a piece of bread and three sips of water, honoring the Holy Trinity.

✝️ Cutting your hair and trimming your finger and toe nails.

✝️ Taking off your shoes when entering Church.

✝️ Remaining quiet from noon until 3pm.

✝️ Visiting holy wells and graveyards. All water from holy wells have curative properties on Good Friday.

✝️ Planting a few crop seeds to bring a blessings on all your crops.

✝️ A child born on Good Friday and baptized on Easter Sunday will have the gift of healing. It was thought that boys born and baptized on these days should enter the ministry. Those who die on Good Friday go straight to heaven.

✝️ Chicken's eggs laid on Good Friday are marked with a cross. Each member of the household eats one Easter Sunday. And chicks hatched on Good Friday will be healthy.

Hello friends, it's wonderful to see that Paisley Place is still getting visitors on our page, however Paisley Place is no longer in business and this page will be no more in 7 days. We have sold our historic building at 4578 Dowling St in Montague and it is currently undergoing a major renovation under directions of new owners Mary Payne, and son, Michael. It was not easy to leave Paisley Place after almost 15 years, but we are excited to see (as you will be) the new changes and new energies making their contributions and dreams come true in beautiful dear Montague.

The following is a poem I found an a paper inside an old book on the opening day of Paisley Place in 2002. I have discovered since it comes from STREAMS IN THE DESSERT. As autumn approaches it is word that expresses that need for a contemplative season in ones life:
I need wide spaces in my heart where faith and I can come apart
and grow serene.
Life gets so choked by busy living,
Kindness so lost in fussy giving,
That love slips by unseen.

I want to make a quiet place where those I love can see God's face,
Can stretch their hearts across the earth,
And understand what spring is worth,
Can count the stars, watch violets grow,
And learn what birds and children know.

According to the Australian Daily Telegraph this week, more and more men are now flocking to the art of knitting. Whilst the traditional Aran Sweater was originally handmade by the women of the Islands to protect the fishermen who braved the rough Irish seas, this ritual has evolved throughout the centuries.Today the garment is made by both men and women who are both equally as passionate about the craft, but still inspired by it's treasured heritage and the original women of the Aran Islands.

We would love to hear from anyone that enjoys a stitch or two to tell us what you love most about the craft of knitting and where you get your inspiration from?
