The Peregrine falcon is a species that has not been previously rehabilitated here. Normally, they migrate through Louisiana during early spring and late summer. This particular male falcon found in central Louisiana, also known as a tiercel, has sustained an injury to its left wing.

This is the time of year that these young Mississippi Kites are hatching and many will be displaced from their nests. This "eyas" MS. Kite found that out.
If you find a nestling hawk, owlet or kite on the ground you can help by providing a temporary nest basket and attaching it to a nearby tree thus protecting it from a dog or cat. Its parents are fully aware of the youngsters'plight and will continue to care and feed it even though it isn't in its original nest. It is false that touching a bird will render non- acceptance from the parents. They are so much better off being kept where they are found and with their parents than being foster care raised and that being the last resort.

If you get the chance to thank the Pineville Animal Control, do it. Linzay Sylvia sent their control agent " Alex Bronson" on a long distance mission to bring this injured female Great Horned owl to me. The wing is fractured and I will in turn transport her to be radiographed by Dr. Jennifer David at WM Animal Hospital in hopes that it is a candidate for surgery at LSU wildlife Hospital in Baton Rouge, La.

Feeding the baby Barred and Great Horned owlets. The Great Horned owlets have the golden yellow eyes and the Barred owlet eyes are brown. Young owls are often displaced by logging and loss of habitat.

These month old Barn owls are kind of the "ugly ducklings" of the raptor world, although they grow up to be strikingly beautiful. We humans don't see these birds often due to their extreme nocturnal behavior. Named because they often live and nest in barns, they are very proficient rodent hunters.
