COUNTDOWN TO THE CROWN DAY 4 🤩

What is my Community Service Initiative?

It’s called Teal for Dee and my goal is to spread awareness about ovarian cancer and the effects of grief.

On February 9th, 2023 I lost my mom to ovarian cancer. When she first started having symptoms, she and doctors overlooked the possibility of ovarian cancer. This led to a diagnosis in later stage 3. Only about a year after beating cancer and ringing the bell, the cancer came back stronger in stage 4.

I use my platform to talk to women about these symptoms, and hopefully change the outcome for another family.

To remember the symptoms I always use the acronym B.E.A.C.H.
B-bloating
E-early fullness
A- abdominal pain
c-changes in bowels
h-heightened fatigue

Just as important as knowing these symptoms, is advocating for yourself. You know your body better than anyone else, so stand up for yourself! You only have one life, so protect it!

COUNTDOWN TO THE CROWN DAY 3🤩

Happy National Higher Education day!

I have had the wonderful experience of being able to perform with my university! Southeastern has given me so many opportunities in ensembles and solos. It has also inspired me to want to continue my education to the doctoral level .

For the past 4 years I have been in the Spirit of the Southland Marching Band, Principal bassoonist in the Southeastern Symphony Orchestra, and principal bassoonist of the Southeastern Wind Symphony! Besides playing in ensembles I have shown my school spirit through doing media videos such as a campus tour video!

I truly love my school and am so proud to call myself a lion 🦁 💚💛

COUNTDOWN TO THE CROWN DAY 2🤩

Fun facts about me!

I have a lot of fun facts, but hers are my top 5!

1. I love video games! Growing up with my dad and brother meant getting beat in Call of Duty constantly. I always remember my brother and I fighting over who got to play Minecraft next on the family computer! As I grew up, games became an escape and an outlet. My favorite games are Skyrim, Minecraft, and Borderlands 2!

2. I love animals! Turtles, lizards, snakes, cats, dogs, and everything in between! I love seeing the wildlife Louisiana has to offer. (and if I can grab it, I will pet it!)

3. I was in Southeastern Louisiana University’s Sprit of the Southland Marching Band for 4 years! I began playing clarient in the band my freshman year, then became the undergraduate assistant. My favorite memories are conducting at half-time!

4. I used to take figure skating lessons! I never got very good at it, but it was so much fun. I can still skate backwards and do a spin if I’m lucky! 😎

5. I can count to 10 in 5 different languages! I have always loved learning about different languages and cultures. Making friends who spoke different languages or visiting new places has helped me to broaden my mind… and my counting skills!

P.S. Working Day and Night by Michael Jackson is my favorite song!

What made me compete in the Miss America Organization? There are too many reasons to count!

I started doing competitions for my mom. She always wanted me to do pageants when I was younger but I never did. After losing her as a sophomore in college, I decided to give it a try. These competitions give me an outlet to share her story and raise awareness for ovarian cancer.

This is my third year competing and I keep coming back because of the four points of the crown!

1. Service
- This organization gives me more opportunity to serve my community and raise awareness for ovarian cancer. I have been able to table at events to share my mom’s story, volunteer at the food bank, speak to women at events about ovarian cancer symptoms, and so much more!

2.Style
- Competing has helped me to find my personal style and what complements my personality! This organization helps women find themselves and become confident in who they are.

3.Scholarship
- Though competing the last three years, I have been able to attend college for two free years! The scholarships provided by the Miss America Organization help so many women like me to achieve our higher education goals.

4.Success
-Preparing for competitions has helped me to find my own personal success. It helped me to understand what success means to me, and what to do once I achieve a goal I have.

A huge thank you to for being such an incredible partner! 💚

This April, I had the opportunity to work with Stuffed owner, Eddie Fisher to create a Miss Southeastern Potato, which was sold throughout the month in support of the Association’s Go Red for Women campaign and the Foundation.

Thanks to Stuffed’s generosity and everyone who stopped by to enjoy a delicious potato, we were able to raise $500 for these meaningful causes!

Thank you, Stuffed, and thank you to the amazing community for supporting service, scholarship, and women’s heart health💚💛
