Congratulations to all the candidates that won their respective races last night. I believe we should celebrate when others win and appreciate every opportunity for competition. Someone else’s success is not your failure. These are the values my wife Betsy and I work to instill in our four children. A close election win should not diminish Mr. Irmen’s victory nor delay the opportunity to recognize the accomplishment. I will not be requesting a recount. Congratulations and good luck to Lacey, Scott and Bill as they begin their term on the Minot Public School Board.

I believe in accountability. This election process was not flawed and not responsible for the results. I should have worked harder and campaigned on the juxtaposition of values and beliefs that separated the candidates. The success of the other candidates is an opportunity for me to learn and improve from so I can be a better candidate next time.

I sincerely appreciate the support I have received from my family, friends and Minot community. Thank you.

My resolve and commitment to the success of our community, schools and most importantly children have only been emboldened.

If you’re excited to vote and don’t want to wait for June 11……early voting started today in the Magic City.

Hopefully everyone has been able to get enough information about the candidates to make their decision of who to vote for. The late internal polling in our house is breaking for me with the undecideds. The sample size is small, only 6 voters and only 2 are of legal age to vote. I feel fortunate to have been able to move my wife Betsy from undecided to a solid yes.

My 9 year old son Eisenhower (Ike) was on the fence, a campaign rally (Timberwolves tickets) and Ike said I would have his vote if he was old enough to vote but he’s also keeping an eye a couple of other candidates.

Early voting will take place through Friday, June 7, and also on Monday, June 10, all at the County Administration Building next to the courthouse from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

My name is Darrik Trudell, and I would like to introduce myself to the voters of Minot and provide information about myself and my decision to run in the Minot Public School Board election. I have sought perspective and advice from Minot residents and those affected by the decisions of the School Board. Resoundingly, the feedback has been to have more openness, transparency, and accountability from the Minot Public School Board. My experience, training, education, and background have prepared me to be a strong voice and effective representative to meet this charge. I firmly believe that to be effective at helping people and finding solutions, you have to tell people the truth.

I graduated from Minot State University (MSU) in 2003 with a degree in Social Work. MSU provided me with the experience I needed to start my career in law enforcement. MSU is also where I met my wife, Betsy, a Mohall, ND native. After graduation I moved to Bismarck, ND to work for the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as a Parole and Probation Officer. As a Parole and Probation Officer it instilled in me the importance of perspective. To be successful at helping individuals it is important to take the time to understand what life events influence individuals’ decision making. In 2007, I was hired as a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service (USSS). As a Special Agent with the Secret Service, I developed strong communication skills and an understanding of the necessity of attention to detail and compromise. It is incumbent upon Secret Service Agents to get all people involved to work towards the shared interests of safety and security. The Secret Service honed my skills investigating financial crimes to ensure the integrity of our country's financial infrastructure. In 2011, Betsy and I finally got the opportunity to move back to Minot. I was hired as a Special Agent with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). HSI has provided me with the most rewarding opportunities of my career. To help stop the victimization of the vulnerable and to seek justice for victims. I have learned the path of pragmatism is most effective. My wife and I are also part owners of a small business in Minot. Operating a business has reiterated the importance of working with others and finding compromise. All these experiences have shaped my leadership style and convictions.
My unique experience in government service and private business provides me with the skill set to provide context, transparency and solutions that will benefit the MPS children, staff, and the citizens of the Magic City. My main objective every day is to ensure the safety and well-being of our children. There are many challenges and dangers that exist in today’s environment that require the knowledge, experience, and steely resolve to help navigate these issues. I will also ensure that MPS allocates our tax dollars in the best financial interest of the students, teachers and citizens of Minot.

Betsy and I along with our four kids, Reagan, Grant, Harrison, and Eisenhower look forward to earning your trust and confidence.
