Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865—the day news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas, more than two years later. It’s a reminder that freedom has not always come swiftly or equally and that the work continues.

LWVND is committed to empowering voters and defending democracy and recognizes the ongoing importance of removing barriers to civic participation to ensure every voice is heard.
