Mineral Fire & Rescue is located in the scenic foothills of the majestic Mt. Rainier.

We are an almost entirely volunteer-based department, proudly dedicated to providing Fire and EMS services to the community of Mineral and the surrounding areas.

This year’s theme is Americans Stand Ready—ready to protect our families, help our neighbors, and support first responders when emergencies happen.

Preparedness starts with a plan:

✅ Choose a safe meeting place
✅ Know more than one way out of your area
✅ Decide how your family will stay in contact
✅ Include pets, livestock, medications, and mobility needs
✅ Keep an out-of-area contact in everyone’s phone

And practice the plan. Emergencies aren’t the time to figure out who is going where.

Rain doesn’t mean it’s safe to burn.

While we may see some rain in the forecast, conditions remain dry and fire danger is still high.

🚫 The burn ban remains in effect. Please do not burn until restrictions have been lifted.

This isn’t something you see from the Severe Prediction Center (SPC) for our area every day. This is the SPC’s fire outlook for Washington state tomorrow, Saturday August 22nd. The brown shading represents the possibility of isolated dry thunderstorms, that risk extends into parts western Washington and encompasses much of Eastern Washington. Then the purple shading represents scattered dry thunderstorm coverage, which means the storms are expected the a bit more widespread. These areas will pose the risk of experiencing new fire starts from lightning. On top of it all, there is also a Critical Fire risk in eastern Washington tomorrow for high winds and low relative humidities. Any new or existing fires will likely spread rapidly tomorrow. Surrounding the critical fire weather risk, is an elevated fire weather risk in Eastern Washington for similar conditions, just not quite as extreme.

All this to say, be very diligent tomorrow. If you see any rising smoke from an area there wasn’t before, don’t be afraid to report it. Help spread the word. 1:44PM 08-21-26

There is a threat for thunderstorms tonight through Saturday across Western Washington, including in the Cascades & Olympics. If you're heading out into the mountains, make sure you're aware of the forecast.

There’s a red flag warning in place from Saturday to Sunday for almost all of Central and Eastern Washington as well as the Cascade foothills of Western Washington and areas around the Olympic Mountains. Check your local weather for specific timings and guidance at weather.gov. In Central and Eastern Washington, wind is expected to be between 15-25 mph with 40 mph gusts. There’s also the potential for lightning, which could spread fires more easily. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Please do your part and reduce the possibility of flames and sparks! If you see a fire start, call 911 right away.

⚠️ POWER OUTAGE UPDATE

Lewis County Public Utility District is currently assessing the outage affecting our area. As of 3:01 PM, 1,684 customers are without power.

☀️ And it’s HOT out there. While the power is out:

💧 Drink plenty of water.
🏠 Keep blinds and curtains closed to keep the heat out.
🧊 Limit opening refrigerators and freezers.
❤️ Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone who may have trouble staying cool.

And a reminder — never run a generator indoors, in a garage, or near doors or windows.

We’ll share additional information as it becomes available.

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING — THURSDAY, AUGUST 13

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from NOON until 9 PM today for our area due to the potential for lightning and gusty, erratic winds.

⛈️ What to expect:
• Isolated to scattered thunderstorms
• Lightning that could ignite dry vegetation
• Gusty outflow winds of 20–30 mph
• Rapid and unpredictable fire spread if a fire starts

With our vegetation already dry, lightning is a particular concern today. Thunderstorm winds can also cause a new or existing fire to change direction and spread quickly.

🔥 A burn ban is already in effect. Please continue to follow all current fire restrictions and be especially careful with anything that could create a spark.

If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.

Stay weather-aware this afternoon and evening, especially if thunderstorms begin moving through the area.

Lewis County Fire District #9 is currently responding to a reported fire near Pleasant Valley Road and Highway 7.

Our engine has just arrived on scene. DNR is one scene. Morton Fire is responding, and additional resources from Pierce County may also be requested/responding.
