There’s something different about selling a home after 40 years.
It’s not just about paint, roofing, or updates.
It’s about memories.
Recently, my parents are now selling the home I grew up in — a 1.5 story Cape Cod on the north side of Milwaukee. Forty years of birthdays. Holidays. Neighbors who became family. Grandparents across the street.
But time changes things.
Health challenges. Upkeep becoming too much. Financial pressure. A home that once felt like a dream slowly becoming overwhelming.
I stepped in to help manage the renovations, contractors, clean-out, financing, and sale — all while working full time and raising my son.
What I learned through that process changed how I see homeowners completely.
Selling after decades in one place isn’t just a transaction. It’s emotional. It’s exhausting. And it’s heavy.
That experience is a big reason Timber Grit Homes exists the way it does today — not as a flashy “we buy houses” operation, but as a private, respectful option for people navigating tough transitions.
If you’ve lived in your home for years and the thought of selling feels overwhelming… you’re not alone.
I wrote a deeper blog post sharing the full story and what it taught me about helping Milwaukee and Southeast Wisconsin homeowners.
