A major milestone is coming to the I-94 East-West Freeway project. During the week of October 12, traffic between Hawley Road and General Mitchell Boulevard is scheduled to shift to the outside lanes as crews begin work in the median.

The General Mitchell Boulevard eastbound exit and westbound entrance ramp will close through spring 2027. All General Mitchell Boulevard ramps will remain open on Brewers home playoff game days.

Halloween Haunts returns to Wehr Nature Center October 16th through the 18th!

This family-friendly Milwaukee County Parks tradition transforms Wehr’s nighttime woodland trails into an Enchanted Forest featuring more than 300 glowing Jack-o’-lanterns, whimsical woodland characters, a Story Stroll and more.

This year’s theme, “Turn Off the Lights, Save the Night,” invites families to explore the nighttime world and learn why darkness matters for wildlife.

For three nights each year, Wehr’s woodland is transformed into an Enchanted Forest complete with a cackling witch, a talking owl, and even some rapping arthropods.

Milwaukee County residents will see changes to Medicaid this fall and into 2027. I encourage residents to learn more, understand how these changes may affect them, and take advantage of available support.

Milwaukee County DHHS is offering resources and assistance, including a Medicaid Resource Event on Tuesday, October 6, from 3–5 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 1531 W. Vliet St.

The event is open to all community members.

Additional one-on-one Medicaid information sessions are also available at the Marcia P. Coggs Health & Human Services Center on the second Thursday of each month.

Nearly 100 trees were stolen from Menomonee River Parkway after being planted to help reduce flooding and improve the parkway. This is unacceptable. If you have information, please report it to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

CONSTRUCTION NOTICE: Whitnall Park Drive Road Closure

Milwaukee County Parks will be completing mill and overlay work on Whitnall Park Drive near Boerner Botanical Gardens, likely on Thursday, August 13, and Friday, August 14.

The roadway will be temporarily closed during the day for work and reopened overnight. A signed detour will direct visitors to access Boerner Botanical Gardens from 92nd Street.

Please plan accordingly and allow extra time when visiting the Gardens or traveling through Whitnall Park.

Oak Leaf Trail Closure & Detour Notice

If you're planning to bike or walk the Oak Leaf Trail near the Hale Interchange, please be aware of an extended closure.

The Oak Leaf Trail is fully closed between just north of Layton Avenue and Cold Spring Road for approximately three months while crews complete bridge repairs as part of the WisDOT Hale Interchange improvement project.

Detour Routes:
🚴 Bicyclists: Layton Avenue → 92nd Street → Cold Spring Road
🚶 Pedestrians: Layton Avenue → WIS 100 (108th Street) → Cold Spring Road
