Yesterday’s 🎓Grad Walk🎓 was a full-circle moment for the Class of 2026 and an unforgettable source of inspiration for our younger students!

As our seniors walked the halls of the schools where their Fife journey began, they were welcomed with cheers, smiles, high-fives, and proud waves from students and staff. For our graduates, it was a meaningful reminder of how far they have come. For our younger learners, it was a chance to see what they are working toward. And for our staff, it was a powerful celebration of the role they have played in helping our students grow, learn, and reach this milestone.

By proclamation of our Board of Directors, Fife Public Schools recognizes June 2026 as Pride Month.

Pride Month is a time to celebrate the resilience, contributions, and strength of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals in our schools, community, state, and nation. It is also a reminder that affirming spaces and allies matter. In Fife Public Schools, we believe every student, staff member, family, and community member deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, fairness, and belonging.

This June, we join others across Washington and the nation in recognizing Pride Month and reaffirming our commitment to safe, welcoming, and inclusive schools for all.

At our May School Board Meeting, Columbia Junior High’s Unified Leadership students helped lead an important conversation about inclusion, belonging, and what it means to make sure every student is meaningfully included.

Three Unified Leadership students, along with teacher Liz Ohlde, invited our board members to participate in the Inclusion Tile Game. Board members worked collaboratively to place cards in order from the most exclusionary practices to the most inclusive practices, with varying degrees in between. The activity sparked thoughtful discussion about how schools can move from exclusion toward full inclusion for all students.

The students also shared how Unified Leadership has helped them better understand that everyone is equal and deserves to be included, valued, and seen for who they are. They spoke about the deep impact the class has had on them personally and how it has changed the way they think about including people who may be different from themselves.

Ms. Ohlde also highlighted Columbia Junior High’s Peer Tutor Program, where general education students work alongside Life Skills students each period to support academics, social skills, and inclusion. Peer tutors also support Life Skills students in general education classrooms, helping create more inclusive learning environments across the school.

Thank you to our Unified Leadership students and Ms. Ohlde for reminding us that inclusion is not just an idea - it is something we practice and strive for together every day.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As a district, we are grateful for the freedoms we enjoy and recognize the deep cost at which they were secured. May we carry forward our fallen heroes' legacies with gratitude and enduring purpose.

Last night’s District Art Show was another HUGE success - filled with families, students, staff, and community members enjoying a showcase of creativity from across our district!

A special thank you to our outstanding visual, graphic, and performing arts educators for inspiring and supporting our student artists every day. We also extend our appreciation to the Fife High School and Columbia Junior High Art Club students for their tremendous help preparing for the show, assisting with disassembly afterward, and the high school students adding to the fun by providing face painting for attendees.

We are so proud of our students and grateful to everyone who came out to celebrate their talent, creativity, and hard work!

Thank you to Fife Police, Puyallup Tribal Police, and Milton Police Officers for their quick and thorough response today. Around 2:00 p.m. today, South Sound 911 received a FALSE report of an emergency at Fife Elementary School. The report was NOT made by anyone in the Fife Public Schools community, and law enforcement is actively investigating the source of the false report.

In response to the South Sound 911 report, Fife Police arrived at Fife Elementary at approximately 2:10 p.m., and a lockdown was immediately initiated. Because the Fife Elementary and Fife High School campuses are adjacent, Fife High School was also placed in lockdown as a precaution.

Fife Police quickly cleared all classrooms and secured the campus perimeter at Fife Elementary to ensure the safety of students and staff. At no time were students or staff at Fife Elementary in danger.

Assistant Chief of Fife Police David Claridge commended Fife Elementary staff and students, giving them an enthusiastic “A+” for their response to the lockdown and their overall safety preparedness.

While this false report caused significant alarm, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority, and we appreciate the swift response and partnership of Fife Police and emergency personnel.

🎨Mondays Can Be Beautiful…🎨

This week’s featured artists come from Ms. Brownell’s Art Studio at Columbia Junior High, where sculpture students are getting their hands into one of the oldest ceramic techniques in history!

Most recently, students have been creating 8-inch coil pots using the traditional hand-building method of coil construction - an art form that has been used across cultures for centuries. Through this project, students are exploring craftsmanship, texture, and form while gaining a deeper appreciation for the historical significance of pottery as both artistic expression and functional design.

This hands-on learning experience also aligns with Washington State Arts Standards, as students develop artistic ideas, refine their techniques, and create meaningful sculptural work through the creative process.

The results are already impressive, and we can’t wait for the community to see the incredible work our student artists have created at our District Art Show later this week!

🎨Mondays Can Be Beautiful…🎨

This week’s featured artists come from Ms. D’Antonio’s Art Studio at Surprise Lake Middle School, where creativity is blooming...literally!

Recently, students completed a nature-themed unit featuring oil pastel botanical drawings inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe as well as paper landscape sculptures that explored depth through foreground, middle ground, and background. The results are colorful, imaginative, and full of thoughtful artistic choices.

Students are also preparing their work for the upcoming art show, with some proudly putting the finishing touches on their pieces and writing artist statements to share the inspiration and meaning behind their creations.

Now, the studio has shifted to portrait drawing, where students are sharpening their observation skills through graphite studies of facial features as they prepare for their final portrait work.

Throughout the year, students have explored a wide variety of media, techniques, and artistic approaches while developing their own creative voice. From inspiration and experimentation to creating, sharing, and reflecting, Ms. D’Antonio’s classroom has fostered both artistic skill and the flexibility, resilience, and confidence that come with the creative process.

As a reminder, join us for the 22nd Annual District-Wide Art Show!
