Gooood Morning Astronomers!

We hope that 2026 has treated you all very well so far as we look forward to this year’s Great Lake Star Gaze!

The Great Lakes Star Gaze will take place between September 10th-13th.

We WILL be returning to the Ocqueoc Outdoor Center at 7142 Ocqueoc Lake Rd, Millersburg MI, 49759.

With the excellent dark skies, comfortable amenities, and resources available at the Ocqueoc Outdoor Center, it’s clear this location is a special place for us to enjoy astronomy!

We have been able to expand our registration options where now we will have CAMPING OPTIONS! If you so desire, tent camping is now available on the property where designated, along with separate regisation for the bunk house lodging. Naturally for tent campers though, come prepared for the chance of bad weather because we can’t shelter everyone in the bunk house if the weather does turn bad.

Registration isn’t open yet but we wanted to give you an update for this upcoming year so you can start planning. We will post updates here as we decide on the details for GLSG 2026!

Keep Looking UP!

Hi Astronomy Geeks,
The Delta Dome observatory public open house for October is this weekend Friday/Saturday nights the 24th or 25th. Please call the “O-line” at (989) 686-9232 this Friday after 12-noon for an update on sky conditions to verify which night may be clear for observing. Currently Saturday night is looking the best. The plan is to start at 7:30 pm in hopes to see comets Lemmon and Swan. Yes, two comets are currently visible with telescopes/binoculars! Come see them while they are visible! The observatory is located on the west side of Delta’s main campus between the baseball and softball fields. Park in the lot in front of the athletic concession building. Follow the red lights around the back side of that building and be ready to see galaxies, nebulas, star clusters, & planets oh my! Observing will end about 10:30 pm.

The bridge is under construction on Ocqueoc Road so this is a way to get around it.

You'll have to go the alternate route, traveling N on M211 and going around Black Lake to Town Hall Rd. If you head to Ocqueoc Rd., you'll be re-routed back to M211.

See you all soon!

Welcome Stargazers!

We apologize for the short notice, but we have some Big changes for this year’s star party. We are changing the weekend of the star party to September 19th – 21st. This brings it back to new moon weekend and keeps us from competing with Astronomy at the Beach in Kensington. River Valley is booked with an event that weekend, so this also requires us to Move the star party to a new venue. We are partnering with and being sponsored by the Friends of Ocqueoc Outdoor Event Center. They are just getting started with star parties and we wanted to help them out. The event center is located at 7142 Ocqueoc Lake Rd, Millersburg, MI 49759. The reason this location was chosen, is because they have Bortle 2 skies, bunk houses, bathroom facilities and access to power. The men’s and women’s bath houses have showers and running water sinks and toilets. These will be located near the observing field. Being that this is new and a big change we are only running Friday – Sunday this year. Due to permits we were not able to get tent camping for Friday night, but it is available on the observing field for Saturday night. The bunk houses have bunk beds, you would still need to bring bedding. Spaces are limited so we are only doing pre-registration this year and if spots fill up, we will start a waiting list. You will receive an email confirmation from us letting you know if you are all set or potentially on a waiting list. There will be a men’s and a women’s sections in the bunkhouses. We do have a few locations to house families together. The cost has gone up a little this year but that small increase will include dinner Saturday night; hot dogs, sides and drinks, and breakfast Sunday morning; pancakes, side and drinks. We know change is tough, and it was not easy making this decision. With the beautiful dark skies and facilities, we think the change will be worth it.

The facility does not allow generators or any RV/Camper set up. There are cabins and hotels/motels within 20 minutes around Black Lake and in Rogers City. There is also Ocqueoc Cabins and Campsites within 10 minutes on 23, but they have very limited availability.

Amazing year for Astronomy! This year had three good nights of observing even though there were clouds at times. Amazing objects were seen and photographed, Norbert Vance gave great talks, there were kids fishing and flying kites, and there was a late night sloppy joe dinner! Thank you everyone for attending and we’ll see you next year!
