The Friends of the Vinyard Shipyard are also friends to the Mispillion River and it's Blueway that runs out to the Delaware Bay at Slaughter Beach as it passes our shipyard.
The DNREC magazine Outdoor Delaware has a great article this season on the one of the special stories that highlights our place in a very delicate global ecosystem at the mouth of the Mispillion River.
This is an great article about our unique attachment to the Red Knot. Check it out!

Milford was founded on the River and Shipbuilding was the predominant industry in town for decades surrounding the turn of the century to 1900 and onward. Look at this gorgeous ship built right in Downtown Milford on the banks of the Mispillion River.

On this date in 1942, the Albert Paul was torpedoed. The Albert Paul was the largest sailing vessel built on the Mispillion. It was launched with great fanfare in August 1917. Both of these boats were built at the Vinyard Shipyard. Both were launched right in the center of downtown Milford. The Augusta (color photo) was lovingly restored and remains at dock in downtown Milford.
How cool is that?
