Smokey knows best. Drown, stir and feel to fully extinguish your campfire. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave.

Folks were reeling in memories on the Carson National Forest back in 1959, proving that fishing on national forests and grasslands never goes out of style. National Boating and Fishing Week is the perfect excuse to head to the forest and cast a line.

Our long Garden is almost in full bloom. This weekend is a great time to come see our Papaver Orientale (Oriental Poppy) which is a perennial flower with large, brightly orange-colored blooms featuring petals that look like crepe paper. Our 'Caesars Brother’ (Siberian Iris) is a clump-forming perennial with stunning, deep, velvety violet flowers.

GREY TOWERS HERITAGE ASSOCIATION

Celebrating Our 2026 Pinchot Legacy Scholarship Recipients

Investing in the Next Generation

The Grey Towers Heritage Association is proud to announce the recipients of the 2026 Pinchot Legacy Scholarships. Each student has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship in recognition of their academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to the values of education, public service, and conservation embodied by the Pinchot family.

The Pinchot Legacy Scholarship continues the vision of James and Gifford Pinchot, who used Grey Towers as a gathering place for leaders, educators, conservationists, and innovators dedicated to shaping a better future.

“These scholarships represent an investment in the next generation of leaders and problem-solvers,” said Don Allen, GTHA Board Member and organizer of the Legacy Scholarship fundraising effort. “The Pinchots believed deeply in education, public service, and conservation. Through this program, we are helping talented young people pursue their goals while carrying forward the values that made Grey Towers such an important place in American history.”

The scholarships are funded entirely through community support of the Grey Towers Heritage Association’s annual Candlelight Dinner at the Finger Bowl and other scholarship fundraising activities.

🦜🌿 Happy World Parrot Day to these lovebirds!
Today we’re celebrating the colorful, charismatic parrots that brighten forests around the world — including right here in the United States.
El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. It’s home to the iconic Puerto Rican parrot, one of the rarest birds on Earth.
In 1975, the total Puerto Rican parrot population was down to 13 known individuals on the El Yunque, easily qualifying the parrot as one of the most endangered birds in the world.
Through a joint task force approach between the Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources, the Puerto Rican parrot population has increased from 13 parrots to a total island-wide population of approximately 500 individuals. Partnerships are powerful!
