Hiring: District Technician

A position has become available for a District Technician at the Audrain County Soil & Water Conservation District. The position will work in Audrain County at the Mexico, MO office. Work will focus on delivering conservation technical assistance and cost-share to landowners and producers in the area. This is an entry level position (40 hours per week) with potential for advancement.

Duties:
Duties may include survey, design of conservation practices, conservation planning, contract and technical assistance, field work, routine office activities, communication with landowners and operators, outreach assistance, maintaining accurate records and reports, assisting NRCS personnel with USDA conservation programs, attending regular board meetings and training events, operating a motor vehicle to carry out regular duties, and any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs over uneven terrain, have the capacity to work outdoors regardless of weather conditions, have a good working knowledge of computers and basic office software, be able to pass a background check, and possess a valid Missouri Real ID driver's license.

Ag-related experience is preferred, but not required.

Full time position with Health, Dental and Vision Insurance and Retirement benefits as well as annual & sick leave.

The Audrain County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold election for one supervisor in each of two different territories in the county. The election will take place February 1st through 20th of 2026. Anyone that meets the qualifications listed below and that owns a farm in Territory (2) Salt River/South Fork Township or Territory (4) Cuivre Township, may be considered as a candidate in the election. You may submit your name for participation in the election by completing a self-nomination form and emailing it to [email protected] November 3rd through December 2nd. The self-nomination form is available online at http://mosoilandwater.land/audrain or email Stacey to request a form.
The qualifications required to be a supervisor are:
1. Being a land representative from the district (10 CSR 70-4.010 (1)). A land representative is defined as the owner or representative authorized by power of attorney of any farm lying within an area proposed to be established, and subsequently established, as a soil and water conservation district under Chapter 278, RSMo. Each farm is entitled to representation by a land representative: provided, however that the land representative is a taxpayer of the county within which the soil and water district is located.
2. Residing in, or owning a farm in, the area from which he/she is nominated where there is an expiring term.
3. Being a cooperator of the district, defined as, “a person who is actively engaged in farming and practices conservation activities related to agriculture.”
4. Being a current resident and tax paying citizen of the county for at least two years preceding the election date.
5. Be eighteen (18) years of age or older by the election date.
6. Provide a valid mailing address to the program office and notify the program of any changes of address during their term.

Just a Reminder!

We are still out of the office due to government shutdown. If you need immediate assistance, you are welcome to email Stacey at [email protected] and she will pass along to any of the SWCD employees.

You are welcome to call the office and leave a voicemail. We will return calls when we return to the office.

We are not able to do any stake outs and contracts for terraces and waterways at this time. This is due to our equipment and design programs are owned by NRCS. Therefore, we cannot use their equipment during this time.

If you need on the stake out list for terraces and waterways, please email Stacey or call the office and leave a voicemail. We will put them on the list by the date received and we will pick up where we left off.
