Road conditions this morning are very challenging in our county and all over the area. The precipitation is not done yet. We had sleet through the night on top of the snow, which added another level of very challenging issues to travel. Please stay off the roads if at all possible. IDOT is out plowing the highways, however with more precipitation coming down, the highways and interstates are still covered. Secondary roads at this time are treacherous. County highway crews will be out, but not until precipitation is done falling. In other words; please stay home unless absolutely necessary. Have patience and stay safe and warm.

The Massac County Sheriff's Office raised funds from private donations from Massac County Kiwanas Club, Farmer and Company Real Estate (Tiffany Korte) and other private donations to purchase gifts for 6 children in need of Christmas assistance. The names of the children were provided to the Sheriff's Office by Massac Unit One and Joppa/Maple Grove Unit 38 staff.
Staff from the Massac County Sheriff's Office went shopping with lists provided from Massac Unit One and Joppa/Maple Grive Unit 38 with the children's wish lists. The gifts were distributed to homes on Christmas Eve and delivered by Massac County Sheriff's deputies and assisted by Massac County Emergency Management Agency. Pictures and names were kept anonymous from the public to protect the identities of the children.
Massac County Sheriff's Office would like to express gratitude to all involved in this endeavor and hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and wish everyone a Happy New Year!
