As we celebrate Juneteenth, we honor the power and resilience of Black Americans throughout American history.

Today is an opportunity to reflect on the progress we’ve made in the fight for freedom and justice, and a reminder that our work is far from over.

🇺🇸 Today is Flag Day, but do you know why we celebrate it?

Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777, when the Second Continental Congress adopted the American flag as the official flag of the United States.

But what many people don’t know is that the movement to create Flag Day was championed by a teacher.

In 1885, Bernard J. Cigrand, a Wisconsin schoolteacher, organized one of the first formal observances of Flag Day, believing students should understand the meaning behind the flag and the values it represents.

That history reminds us of something important:

Teachers do more than educate. They help shape citizens, preserve history, and pass down the values that define who we are as a nation.

When we support teachers, we invest in the people helping prepare the next generation to lead, serve, and strengthen our democracy.

Today, as we celebrate the flag, let’s also recognize the educators who help teach what it stands for.
