With yesterday being the first day of school, summer is unofficially behind most of us as we look forward to the fall and the school year.

Before we do that, I would like to reflect on this summer and thank you all for another great summer here in Menomonie. There is no better place to be in the summer, than the place we call home.

From starting the summer off with a fly fishing trip in the Red Cedar River with Red Cedar Fly Fishing to the first day, the last day and everything in between at the Wakanda Waterpark. To the Menomonie Farmers Market, to the Ludington Guard Band, with the once in a lifetime Murals in Menomonie event! With Music Over Menomin and Music on Main through the Menomonie Public Library and Downtown Menomonie. To more recreation like the Menomin Meander Bike Ride on the Lake Loop to the Red Cedar Trail. More community events to celebrate our rural culture like the Dairy Brunch and the Dunn County Fair! To celebrating our Menomonie Police Department, Menomonie Fire Department, Uw-Stout Police Department and all first responders at National Night Out.

We even celebrated 250 years as a country with 4th of July at Wakanda Park - Menomonie and fireworks and much more this summer. Thanks again for a great summer! Onward to fall!!

It's the first day of school that I've had the honor of being your mayor, and the future looks bright for our kids! I am always so inspired to see the excitement and enthusiasm our kids have for education - knowing that it's also a struggle for some. Just like I've always tried to teach my kids to offer a helping hand, kind words, and a positive attitude to work everyday to make things better for those around them, I hope we can all take those lessons to heart with the start of the school year - because when we all work together, we can accomplish great things.

When I ran for mayor, I campaigned on investing in our infrastructure and today I’m proud that the City of Menomonie has delivered on that promise.

Governor Tony Evers was here to deliver a $1,000,000 Community Development Block Grant for high-capacity water well #9. This is the first new well in the City of Menomonie since 1994. This investment ensures that our citizens and businesses have adequate access to water, helps with future growth for our community, and limits the opportunity for water shortages like we had recently. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but I’m proud that 4 months in as serving as your mayor that we are making positive change here in Menomonie.

I look forward to continuing to collaborate with the governors office and the state legislature to bring more funding like this to Menomonie!

My wife and I had a great time cooking a meal at Stepping Stones of Dunn County Carin House. A big thank you to Deb and all the volunteers at Stepping Stones for all that you do for this community!!

Thank you for the invite. Stepping Stones is always looking for volunteers to help out at the food pantry and shelter. Volunteering for these nonprofits is part of what makes this community so great!

Last week, we had some very special guest chefs in the kitchen at Cairn House! 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳

A huge thank you to Mayor Matthew Crowe and his wife, Chelsea, for taking time out of their busy schedules to cook a delicious lunch for our residents. Deb is our all-star chef in the kitchen who helped guide them throughout the process. We appreciate the connection the City of Menomonie has with our organization.

I had a great time last night at National Night Out in Menomonie. The community turned out to celebrate our police officers, fire department and first responders! Thank you to the Menomonie Police Department, the Menomonie Fire Department, Project Hope, Uw-Stout Police Department and all first responders for all you do to keep our community safe!!

I also want to thank the sponsors for the event, Lewis Bjork Septic, Chippewa Valley Technical College and the Menomonie Culver's restaurants. This event gets bigger every year with nothing but positive feedback from kids, families and the community!

Congratulations to my good friend and colleague Ashely DeMuth who has accepted a position to be the next CEO at the Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce!

Ashley is currently the CEO at the Menomonie Area Chamber & Visitor Center and has been for the past six (6) years. I appreciate everything that Ashley, and the Chamber have done for Menomonie and the surrounding area during her time leading the organization. I am proud of Ashely and she will do great things for the City of Eau Claire. I look forward to continuing the commitment in partnering and collaborating with the local Chamber and with the Eau Claire and other regional Chamber organizations!

I don’t think this is goodbye for Ashley and Menomonie, rather a see you later. Good luck to Ashley with everything and thank you for all that you do!

There's a lot happening in Menomonie over the next couple of weeks, and on this week's Mondays with Mayor Matthew, Mayor Matthew Crowe shares a few upcoming events and reminders you won't want to miss.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4, join us for National Night Out at Wilson Park from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Come spend the evening with your neighbors, meet local first responders and community organizations, enjoy family-friendly activities, and grab a bite from one of our food vendors. After National Night Out, stick around for the Ludington Guard Band's final performance of the season in Wilson Park!

There are also only two Music Over Menomin concerts remaining this summer at the Menomonie Public Library. Join us for an evening by the lake and enjoy live music as we wrap up another great season.

Finally, in-person absentee voting continues through Friday, August 7, for the Tuesday, August 11 Partisan Primary Election. If you'd like to vote before Election Day, there's still time.

To learn more about the election, view your sample ballot, verify your voter registration, or find your polling location, visit: https://www.menomonie-wi.gov/189/Elections

Over the past week, I have had the privilege of presenting to both the Menomonie Rotary and Sunshine Rotary at their weekly meetings. We had a great discussion over where Menomonie is at and where we are heading. We discussed Downtown Menomonie, infrastructure, housing and expanding the local workforce.

Thank you for the invite and for all that you do for this community!
