Mike Kovack is a Wadsworth High School graduate and lifelong resident of Medina County. A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Kovack was commissioned as a United States Naval Officer in March of 1985. Stationed in San Diego, California, he served three decorated tours of duty in the Persian Gulf aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Lynde McCormick (DDG-8) and the minesweeper USS Enhance (MSO-437). A reserve officer from 1989-1993, Kovack was recalled to the Naval Reserve following 9/11. Kovack was mobilized four times after 9/11, including two overseas tours of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, including a tour with the United States Army in Baghdad, Iraq in 2006. Kovack served as a Wadsworth City Councilman from 1990-91 and received his Masters Degree in Public Administration magna cm laude from the University of Akron in 1992 and was named a Presidential Scholar by President George Bush. He garnered numerous local, state, national and international awards while in office and was the first Medina County Auditor to receive the "Outstanding Auditor Award" from the County Auditors Association of Ohio. Kovack served as President of the Northeast Ohio Auditors Association four times and President of the statewide County Auditors Association of Ohio. Kovack received his real estate license at the age of 21 and currently works for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Stouffer Realty in Medina specializing in commercial/investment property and as a seller's agent. Kovack also provides commercial bookkeeping, accounting and auditor services to non-profits in the community and chairs the Mike Kovack Family Community Foundation which sponsors numerous scholarships across Medina County. Kovack and his fiance' Soehnke Hasselhof live in the city of Medina. He is active in many community activities and organizations.
