Thank you to everyone in our community for the comments and questions on Auditor Capretta's HB 186 video—your engagement is appreciated.

Property tax reform is handled by the State of Ohio legislature. The Auditor’s office provides the data used to calculate these adjustments. This is just the first phase, and additional relief options are still being discussed.

To help clarify: Medina and Wadsworth school districts aren’t seeing reductions because they were already above the 20-mill floor, so their revenues were previously adjusted. Other districts saw increases from reappraisal because they were brought up to that floor.

We will continue working with leaders in Columbus to ensure transparency and keep you informed every step of the way.

Today, the Medina County Budget Commission voted to send The Medina County school tax budget submissions to Columbus as presented.

While this action follows legal guidance, the conversation around property taxes must continue. Auditor Capretta emphasized the need for accountability and action:

“Property taxes are putting real pressure on Medina County taxpayers. We must work together—schools, elected officials, and county leadership—to provide meaningful relief.”

This discussion is far from over. Ensuring responsible spending and protecting taxpayers must remain a top priority for everyone involved. Please see the attached press release for full details.
