5 years later, we still honor Superintendent Scott D. Mahoney’s life and legacy. Superintendent Mahoney’s dedication to helping others was a quality many remember most about him. Whether it was for advice or guidance, Superintendent Mahoney’s door was always open to anyone in need of his help. As today marks 5 years since his passing, our department continues to carry on his memory and will not forget the work he did to better our department and many communities across Delaware County during his tenure.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 which designated May 15th as Peace Officers' Memorial Day and the week in which 15th falls in as National Police Week.

In 1997, Officer Patrick P. Montuore of the Florham Park, NJ Police Department organized the first official bicycle ride to Washington, D.C. to raise awareness for officers killed in the line of duty as well as to support the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. This journey would later be named the Police Unity Tour.

This year, like many previous years, Delaware County Park Police Department Sergeant R. Cleary is taking part in both events as he travels to Washington D.C. with the Police Unity Tour.

Sergeant Cleary wears many hats with the Delaware County Park Police Department to include, overseeing the Bike Patrol Unit, representing our department as a Police Bagpiper, providing assistance and aid to numerous fundraisers and good causes and overseeing department staff assigned to the Delaware County Mass Incident Response Team.

The Delaware County Park Police Department would like to thank Sergeant Cleary and every other Law Enforcement Officer across the nation for the hard work and dedication they provide in the name of public safety and law & order. We also keep those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in our thoughts and prayers as they did not die in vain, may they live on in the memories and hearts of those they helped and loved forever.

A special thank you to Henry Jones Jr. for capturing this picture of Sergeant Cleary and sharing it with us!

On Thursday, members of the Delaware County Park Police Department attended the Delaware County Chiefs of Police Association Annual Pig Roast. This event is held, in part, to bring past and present members of Delaware County Law Enforcement together to catch up and enjoy each other's company. It is with events like this that other special occurrences happen, such as three Delaware County Park Police Department Chiefs of Police past and present being in the same place at the same time!

With a combined 140+ years of policing experience and knowledge, pictured below are:

Chief Samuel Ziviello - 1992-2018 (center)
Chief John Deihl - 2021-2025 (left)
Chief Mitchell Rock - 2025-Present (right)

We would like to thank the Delaware County Chiefs of Police Association for hosting this event which brought these three and many others together for a well-deserved good time!

Earlier this week, Corporal Wood and Officer McCullough attended a Public Safety Leadership Course which focused on women in law enforcement leadership positions.

Throughout the course, Corporal Wood and Officer McCullough learned about the insights and responsibilities of the various levels of leadership and how to navigate the public safety profession as a whole with confidence and purpose.

We would like to thank the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Center, the Mid-Atlantic Association of Women in Law Enforcement and the Wilmington University Center for Law, Justice and Society for creating and hosting such a valuable resource to the public safety community.

This week, we proudly recognize and celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

The Delaware County Park Police Department extends our sincere gratitude to the dedicated professionals of the Delaware County Emergency Communications Center (911) and all public safety telecommunicators who serve as the calm voice in moments of crisis.

Day and night, these men and women are the first point of contact when our community needs help most. Their professionalism, compassion, and ability to remain composed under pressure ensure that police, fire, and EMS personnel receive critical information quickly and accurately.

Every call answered, every dispatcher assigned, and every second counted can make the difference in protecting life and property.

To our telecommunicators: thank you for your unwavering commitment, your service to the residents of Delaware County, and your partnership with first responders in the field.
Your voice is the first, first responder.
