With hay season and spring planting in full swing, we want to highlight the work of our conservation farmers who utilized cover crops this past winter!🌾☘️🫜 Your commitment to soil health is making our entire community more resilient.

Keeping the soil covered through the winter does more than just prevent erosion. Living roots keep microbes active and nutrients cycling, while the cover crops act like a sponge🧽—soaking up water instead of letting it run off. In a drought like the one we’re facing now, that’s a plus.

Whether you’re looking to try cover crops for the first time or want to fine-tune your current mix, our doors are open. Stop by the office or call us to talk about what works best for your rotation. We’re here to help you grow!

Wednesday was a beautiful day spent at the Hull-York Lakeland Regional Envirothon! High school teams across the Upper Cumberland region tested their knowledge on soils, forestry, aquatics, wildlife, and a special topic that changes every year.

Congratulations to Smith County placing 1st, Livingston Academy placing 2nd, and Van Buren County High in 3rd place!

Had a great last week of March in Jackson at the 2026 Spring TCDEA workshop. We learned about updates with TDA and NRCS, different methods to educate our community's children, met with TDA agricultural agents and about the crimes they're fighting, the Safari Park's conservation efforts, and getting to network with other counties' employees!

We had a great time this week in Franklin at the 82nd Annual TACD Convention. We learned about recent Tennessee Department of Agriculture, National Association of Conservation Districts, and National Conservation District Employees Association updates, administrative legalities within the districts, pollinator plantings for hummingbirds, establishing a forage-based feeding program for cattle, and many other topics for both district employees and attending supervisors to learn from.
We’re back in the office and ready to put these ideas to work!
Drop by and see us if you have any questions or give us a call at 931-668-4383 ext. 3!

We had an absolute blast today connecting with the students of Irving College Elementary! From Pre-K to 8th grade, it was inspiring to share what a career in conservation looks like at the Warren County Soil & Water Conservation District and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Sharing our work is always a highlight—because these kids are the ones who will be caring for our land tomorrow. 🌎💚

Last week, we got to visit with our southeastern states at the annual Southeastern Conservation District Employees Association conference! It was a great chance to connect with other districts, share ideas, and learn about new ways to reach our communities through outreach and education.

We also gained valuable information on grants and resources that will help us continue our mission of conserving and protecting our natural resources here at home!

Congratulations to TN Representative Ray Weaver with Coffee County Soil Conservation District being awarded Southeast District Official of Year Award. We are grateful for his many years of dedicated service to soil and water conservation and his lasting contributions to Tennessee agriculture.
