Why Recall Shemwell?

McKinney District 1 Councilman, La'Shadion Shemwell, has not upheld his Oath of Office, has violated the City Charter, has disregarded the City of McKinney Code of Ethical Conduct, has not appeared at meetings and events at which he agreed to represent his constituents, and has made inflammatory statements about residents and staff of the City of McKinney. Furthermore, Mr. Shemwell has been arrested on multiple occasions while serving on council, including an arrest for the felony charge for Continued Violence Against the Family and an arrest for a Class C Misdemeanor.

During the October 15, 2019 Council meeting, Mr. Shemwell stated that local governments and law enforcement agencies in Texas have declared war on residents and are conspiring to kill and injure them. This false narrative violated the trust and support of the residents of McKinney (direct violation of the City of McKinney's Code of Ethical Conduct) and hinders the Economic Development of McKinney. We believe that District 1 deserves to be represented by a person with a servant's heart, whom sincerely cares about the community and the issues which it faces. It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that, we the people of McKinney, ask that a recall election be held to remove him from office.
