It's a beautiful, fresh Saturday afternoon, but the McAllen Nature Center is closed. 🙁 We are in talks with the City of McAllen to return the Center to regular hours so working families have more access and to hire more workers to care for and restore the valuable habitat that the Center protects. We appreciate your support!

What a great, safe volunteer experience! Please stop by the McAllen Nature Center, sign up, and get your family outdoors doing good work this fall.

Our volunteer gardening program is BACK and is looking a little different this year! Our volunteers assist with planting projects, weeding, invasive species removal, pruning and raking trails, and other site maintenance projects as needed.

Stop by Mon-Sat between 8 am and noon to complete a short volunteer interview and to fill out a volunteer waiver and background check form. These will be processed in 1-2 weeks and once they are processed and cleared, you will be called back to volunteer. Feel free to send us a Facebook message if you have any questions!

Masks and social distancing measures will be enforced with all participants in our volunteer program.

The McAllen Nature Center protects a sacred remnant of the original forest that once blanketed the Rio Grande Delta. And we've got proof in aerial photos stretching back to 1930. Check them out!
