Foster care provides children and youth with a safe, stable home when they cannot remain with their families. It is a temporary arrangement, and every child's circumstances are different.

Foster care and adoption serve different purposes and involve different commitments. Foster care focuses on providing care and consistency for children while families work toward stability. When possible and appropriate, the goal is to support a child's safe return to their family.

This month's blog walks through how foster care works and what foster families can expect. Read more at https://www.safy.org/news-and-resources/interested-in-becoming-a-foster-parent-heres-everything-you-need-to-know

Supporting kinship caregivers is a shared community responsibility.

There are many ways to be part of a child's network of support: mentoring a young person, advocating for family-strengthening services, or simply being a trusted presence for a child or caregiver navigating a difficult time.

SAFY works alongside kinship caregivers, providing education and consistent support to help children experience stability and belonging.

Kinship caregivers bring consistency and commitment to the children in their lives. They manage school meetings, appointments, and daily routines while preserving the family connections children rely on. Many take on this role unexpectedly, navigating it alongside their own work and personal responsibilities.

This National Kinship Care Month, we recognize the commitment kinship caregivers bring to the children and families in their lives. Their dedication strengthens the communities we all share.
