Are you interested in working with young men between the ages 12 to 17 years old who need your guidance? Do you have a passion for understanding their behaviors? ANCHOR is seeking Group Home/Shelter Care Leaders to supervise the daily routine of up to 10 youth/residents with ability to maintain a healthy and safe environment. Will participate in planning, organizing and directing residents’ daily programs in compliance with established group home/shelter care practices. Have part-time positions available.
For Part-time we primarily need 12 hour weekend shifts, on call and fill in as needed on week days. Part-time positions do not include benefits.

Must be highly motivated and have a knowledge of managing adolescents and ability to maintain behavioral norms for residents during assigned shifts. Must maintain daily log, prepare meals and transport residents.
Required:
High school graduate (some college preferred)
Valid Driver’s License
Ability to work effectively under stress in a Group Home/Shelter Care environment
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to work weekends and/or shifts
Preferred:
Minimum 1-year experience working with youths in group activities
Outdoor education and adventure therapy experience
Certified in First Aid and CPR
Open until filled.

Food Preparation and Cook

Anchor is in need of a dependable individual who is interested in a great part-time job that coinsides with the Henry County School schedule! You are off when schools are closed!

To provide healthy and nutrition meals for the students and staff of the Transitional Day program in a clean, safe and organized manner.
Duties and responsibilities:
1. Plan and prepare healthy breakfast and lunch meals daily for students and staff including meeting special dietary needs
2. Responsible for shopping and purchasing all groceries and supplies needed and maintain expenses within budget guidelines; order food in bulk quantities from preferred vendor; must maintain receipts and submit to TDP Director; maintain food inventory
3. Must maintain a clean work environment including the kitchen, dining room and walk in freezer area and keep kitchen maintained in an organized fashion
4. Produce weekly menus for distribution to students and staff
5. Responsible for emptying trash daily from inside the building and taking trash to curbside on trash pick-up days
6. Must be able to drive the TDP van as needed
7. Must be able to interact in a positive manner with students and staff and ability to maintain confidentiality of students
8. Must complete annual TB screening
9. Assume other related duties as assigned.

This is a 10-month, part-time position that coincides with the Henry County Public School schedule.
Qualifications
High school diploma

Prefer previous cooking experience
Able to lift up to 25 pounds due to the necessity of keeping inventory of food purchased
Current Virginia driver’s license
Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude

We would like to recognize Ricky Walker as a new 2019 Distinguished Alumni.

Ricky Walker graduated from PHCC in 1994 with an associate degree in criminal justice. He continued his education with Old Dominion University taking advantage of the Teletechnet program offered at Patrick Henry Community College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in administration of justice in 1997 and a graduate certificate in public administration in 1999. Walker then completed a Master of Science degree in sociology with a minor in criminology from Longwood University in 2005.

He is the director of operations for the ANCHOR Commission Group Home System. Walker previously worked for the Martinsville Police Department for twenty one years rising to the rank of lieutenant and then for the Henry County Sheriff’s Office before retiring as a major in 2016. He also served as adjunct faculty for the Virginia Commonwealth University offsite degree program at the New College Institute, adjunct faculty for the Inspire online program at Bluefield College and adjunct faculty in the applied sciences and engineering programs at Patrick Henry Community College. Walker serves on several community boards including the Community Recovery Program board, the Drug Free Martinsville and Henry County board, the HEY (Helping Empower Youth) Task Force, the Fayette Area Historical Initiative board, and the Camp Lee Ford board. He has multiple training certifications and received Officer of the Year awards from the Martinsville Elks Club and Martinsville Exchange Club. Walker is a member of the Piedmont Masonic Lodge, the Kiwanis Club and a charter member and past president of the Patrick Henry Fraternal Order of Police. He is an active member of Rich Acres Christian Church where he has served as a deacon since 2009.
