Some days, healing can feel heavy to carry on your own. But, you don’t have to carry it alone.

Our HEART support group meets on the second Friday of each month and offers a quiet, confidential space for adults who have experienced domestic or sexual violence.

In HEART, you can:
– Share as much or as little as you want
– Sit and listen
– Connect with others who understand what you’ve been through

There is no pressure, no judgment, and no right way to show up. Your pace and your story are respected.

If you’ve been wondering if a support group might help, this could be a gentle place to start. To learn more about HEART and how to join, visit ssrcenter.org. or call 276-403-4080

"Are you okay?"

It's a simple question, and on R U OK? Day, it's a reminder that a caring check-in can start support and is free of charge.

At Southside Survivor Response Center (SSRC), Reassurance Calls are part of how we stay connected with the people we serve. These wellness-oriented phone calls may include checking on someone's well-being, offering a medication reminder, or helping with other day-to-day needs.

You can offer that same care to the people in your life. If you're worried about someone, try something like, "You don't have to explain everything. I'm here to listen, and we can look for support together."

Call 1-877-WE-HELP6 (1-877-934-3576) to ask about Reassurance Calls or reach our 24-hour crisis support.

Survivors do not have to navigate difficult systems alone.

At Southside Survivor Response Center, we provide practical, survivor-centered advocacy that respects each person’s choices, dignity, and pace. That can include court accompaniment, medical advocacy, transportation to forensic exams, and confidential crisis support.

Our role is to help survivors understand their options and feel supported—not to make decisions for them. Through trauma-informed care, we walk alongside survivors as they determine what feels right for their circumstances.

We are honored to serve Martinsville City, Henry County, and Patrick County.
If you or someone you know may need support, please call 276-403-4080. You can also share this information to help someone know they are not alone.

Want to make a difference this month? Join us for meal prep!

Southside Survivor Response Center volunteers at the Salvation Army on the second Wednesday of every month at 8 AM to help prepare meals for the community.

Volunteering is a simple but powerful way to support neighbors in need while building stronger community connections.

This opportunity is open to the public, and extra helping hands are always appreciated. To learn more or get involved, call 1-877-WE-HELP-6.

September 5 is the International Day of Charity. Around here, charity often looks like a community keeping support within reach for the people who need it.

Every contribution helps Southside Survivor Response Center (SSRC) continue providing emergency shelter, advocacy, safety planning, medical accompaniment, crisis intervention, and community education. One supporter may donate supplies, another may volunteer their time, and another may simply share our 24/7 hotline with someone who needs confidential help.

If you've been looking for one practical way to give back this month, we'd love to have you with us.

To volunteer or give, call us at 1-877-WE-HELP6 (1-877-934-3576)

September 4 is National Food Bank Day, and it's a good moment to share how food donations help the families we serve. A safe place also needs the everyday essentials that help people feel cared for.

While Southside Survivor Response Center (SSRC) isn't a food bank, we accept donated food and share it with the individuals and families staying in our emergency shelter. Items like shelf-stable meals, snacks, breakfast foods, bottled water, and family-friendly groceries can bring comfort during a difficult season, depending on our current needs.

If you'd like to give, please reach out first so we can share an updated wish list and drop-off instructions.

Call 1-877-WE-HELP6 (1-877-934-3576) before dropping off food donations.

Thank you.
