To the Residents of Grant County,
As President of the Grant County Commissioners, I would like to take a moment to share my perspective in order to avoid any confusion or misinformation regarding my position on the potential development of data centers within Grant County.
After careful consideration, I categorically do not support the development of data centers on unincorporated land within the jurisdiction of the County Commissioners.
I believe Grant County’s long-term success is best supported by focusing our efforts on economic development initiatives that strengthen and expand the industries that have historically served our community well, including agriculture, advanced manufacturing, education, healthcare, and the growth of our existing small and medium-sized businesses. These are areas where Grant County has both experience and opportunity for continued growth.
Additionally, I remain committed to supporting the redevelopment and repurposing of vacant, blighted, and long-abandoned commercial and industrial properties within the jurisdictions of our cities and towns. The County Redevelopment Commission is currently working to facilitate the redevelopment of the former Dana Corporation site at 400 S. Miller Avenue, and I will continue to support our mayors and town councils in their efforts to reposition underutilized properties for revitalization and new investment.
I have shared my perspective with my fellow Commissioners, as well as the County’s Economic Development consultant, as part of our ongoing discussions regarding the direction of future economic development efforts.
Sincerely,
Shane Middlesworth
President, Grant County Board of Commissioners
