This week highlights the importance of fire prevention, education, and community awareness. We're proud to support efforts that help keep everyone safe.

Outside of prevention activities within local schools, the Marion Fire Department offers an additional program to provide fire safety and arson awareness education to higher risk children, helping them better understand the dangers and consequences of fire-setting behavior. Early intervention and guidance can make a lasting difference.

If you feel your child may be at higher risk of experimenting with fire and need help, please contact us at 319-377-8237

Thank you O’Connell’s Transport for being a partner in community risk reduction. Partnering with local businesses, especially those who work with our more vulnerable populations and those at risk, is vital as we focus on broadening our community risk reduction efforts.

We are excited to partner with the Marion Fire Dept. to share important Safety Tips for Seniors. All of our vans will have this packet available for perusing while passengers are transported safely to and from their destination!

Great information from Linn County Emergency Management on warning sirens!

Great information from Linn County Emergency Management on warning sirens!

To clear up some questions with regards to recent severe weather...

Why didn’t all the sirens go off?

Because Linn County activates outdoor warning sirens by quadrant to match the area actually at risk. That keeps warnings targeted and avoids unnecessary disruption in unaffected areas.

Sirens are activated for:
• Tornado Warning
• Confirmed 70 mph winds
• Confirmed 1.75 inch hail (Golf Ball size)

Remember: sirens are for people who are outdoors. They are not your primary indoor warning method.

Use PACE for weather alerts:
Primary: Alert Iowa (Text LinnIA to 67283) and NOAA Weather Radio
Alternate: Local media and weather apps
Contingency: Social media, friends, family
Emergency: Outdoor warning sirens

Storms move fast! Warnings, alerts, and siren activations can sometimes happen as impacts begin or shortly after. That is why you should never rely on sirens alone.

Have multiple ways to get warnings. Know your quadrant. Take action early.

Stay weather aware and stay safe!

Very large hail (2+”) and tornadoes, some that could become long-tracked, are the main threats this afternoon as significant storms are expected. The most likely area for this significant severe threat is along the Highway 20 and 30 corridors, but isolated very large hail and a few tornadoes are possible as far south as Interstate 80. Have multiple ways to receive warnings today, and have a plan for seeking shelter!
