Vintage Rhode Island A pictorial preservation of the history of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations through a Collection of Stories and Photos that would otherwise be lost.

VINTAGE RHODE ISLAND - A Pictorial and Anecdotal History of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Our goal here is to have fun looking at and discussing Rhode Island's long and significant history of fun and exciting places and things that define our small state. Old Homes, Factories, Public Buildings, Amusement Parks etc. that used to exist in our towns and villages and those that still exist

today. We encourage pictures of YOUR ancestors and YOUR personal history and experiences living here, in those towns and villages. Feel free to post your personal photos and film clips of your Favorite Monuments, Places and Street Photos from yesterday and today! So many Towns, So many Rhodes! Let's see them all! So many areas are over-built and some of our fondest destinations have been destroyed or removed. Let's take a step back and consider what our children will have left in their futures. Let's remember our history by going through those scrapbooks and photo albums then posting them here: Randoms, Candids, Advertisements and Souvenirs alike! Let the Scanning and time warp begin! This page is a family-friendly forum designed for FUN, Insight and History! Please keep in mind that your photo postings will be viewed by a wide audience of all ages. Please have patience for people. Please Be Positive and Be Kind with your Comments. Most of all, Have Fun! DISCLAIMER: The images posted here are for nostalgia and educational purposes only. Fantastic park, great little museum with many incredible stories!!!
The North may have fought to abolish slavery in the south for blacks, but the industrial revolution that started here was literally a new Slavery for all!!! Low wages, extremely long hours, 6 days a week, dangerous working conditions, child labor (8 years old), you lived in mill owned buildings and paid the mill rent and shopped in the mill owned store using mill cash. If you lost a limb on the job or got hurt and couldn’t work you lost your job and lost your housing!!! …and if I’m not mistaken Chuch on Sunday was mandatory!
The dark side of capitalism, still exists, however at least we have OSHA and child labor laws!!!

What’s in store for the future of Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park?

In answering that question, we want your input. We’d like to know what experiences in the park are most important to you. What kind of experiences you would like to see in the future? As part of a long-term planning effort, we’re taking feedback on barriers to access, activities, facilities, and services at the park.

This photograph of the Kelly Mill and Blackstone Canal dates back to 1903.

By this time, the Blackstone Canal had already been out of commission for more than half a century.
