The day has come! Rain or shine, the Hooked on Fishing Derby begins tonight at midnight. Bring your pole and head down to the old fishing hole!

Campers can begin setting up their tents in Lake Wilderness Park at 3:00 p.m. Spaces are first come, first serve. Keep tents off of paths and off the beach. Many people will set up their tents on the large lawn next to the beach, although some spaces there are reserved for various vendor booths.

Dinner tonight will be cooked by Maple Valley Rotary beginning at 5 p.m. with hamburgers and hotdogs. They will also serve a pancake breakfast tomorrow morning.

Kids games and stories will begin tonight at 6 p.m.

Official fishing begins at midnight, and you must have your fish weighed by 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning in order to be eligible for the various prizes. You can still buy prize tickets at Johnsons Home & Garden and Wilderness Auto and Chevron prior to the event. Tickets will also be sold on-site but the $5 tagged fish tickets will stop being sold at midnight. The kids' fishing pen will open on Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m.

Congratulations to Phillip Boyd who had the winning bid on the 2024 Premier Glamping Site for this year's Hooked on Fishing Derby at Lake Wilderness!

Phillip will enjoy a tent that is set up for him and includes two lawn chairs, a cooler of snacks and fishing equipment and enough room for himself and a buddy. PLUS! He gets bragging rights for the next year!

Thanks to all who participated in the campsite auction. We really appreciate everyone's enthusiasm for the fishing derby and support of the Maple Valley-Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce. If you run into Phillip, go ahead let him gloat a little bit. He bought the right to do so!

Are you ready for this weekend's Hooked on Fishing Derby? We are!

Now remember, camping is free and you can start setting up your tents at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

But if you want to take advantage of the prize money for the tagged fish, you need to buy special derby tickets at Johnsons Home and Garden and Wilderness Auto Service & Chevron. There are two options this year. Option one is the $5 tagged fish derby. If you catch the tagged fish and have a derby ticket, there is a $300 cash prize sponsored by Tina McDonough, Re/Max Select Real Estate.

Option two is the $2 Top Fish prize which allows you to win a prize from the prize table if you catch a top 50 fish and a have a derby ticket. You can purchase multiple $2 tickets and win multiple prizes if you catch more than one top 50 fish.

Derby Prize Tickets are on sale until 8pm April 27th.

There's a literal theft happening right now in Maple Valley. The high bid on the Premiere Campsite for the Hooked on Fishing Derby is 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 $𝟰𝟬𝟬. Are you going to let someone steal the site for so little?! Oh, the gloating if he wins at that amount will be non-stop!

It's that time of year again! It's time for Hooked on Fishing 🎣at Lake Wilderness Park to coincide with opening day of fishing season 🐟.

This year's event in sponsored by Johnsons Home and Garden and runs from April 26th to the 27th with fishing commencing at midnight on the 27th 🚣‍♂️. It's become a grand tradition in the area! It's also the only night of the year when camping in Lake Wilderness Park is allowed 🏕️.

In some last-minute campaigning to spread the word about this weekend's "Hooked on Fishing" Fishing Derby at Lake Wilderness, Ruby lobbied the City of Maple Valley, WA - Government to win their support. Her testimony and passion were compelling, and the city threw their weight behind the event and were glad to give her a big thumbs up!

Come on out! Friday night will feature burgers and dogs grilled up by Maple Valley Rotary along with fun activities in the park. The derby itself begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday morning, April 22nd, and will run until noon that day. The morning hours will feature a great pancake breakfast again by Maple Valley Rotary to keep all fisher people fueled up and ready to go!

And remember, it's the only night of the year you can camp in Lake Wilderness Park! We hope to see you there!
