I stopped by The Daily Store today and welcomed them to town. They are a locally family-owned business. The store is clean, organized and the owners are friendly. The Daily Store carries a wide variety products and it is continuously changing. Please keep them in mind whenever you need anything.

The Minnesota Mayors Association hosted the Spring Meetup event today. We toured the The Ledge amphitheater in Waite Park. We enjoyed a delicious dinner together at the Park Event Center. We heard from former Circle Pines Mayor Dave Bartholomay, who shared some of the highlights and some of the challenges from his 24 years of public service. He encouraged all of us to lead with honesty and optimism. A special thanks to Mayor Schmitt of Circle Pines for hosting us. It was a great event and a joy to connect with other mayors. Together, we are better!

Saturday afternoon, it was my honor to represent the city at the North Shore Gymnastics groundbreaking celebration. North Shore Gymnastics has been a cornerstone of youth development for decades, helping young people build confidence, discipline, leadership, and healthy habits. I vividly recall swinging a sledgehammer to knock down a wall in 2017, when the Ninja Zone was added, and being at NSG in August 2024 to help celebrate their fiftieth anniversary.

This new facility will allow even more athletes to train, compete, and grow in an environment that reflects the excellence North Shore Gymnastics is known for. Facilities like this bring activity, energy, and economic vitality to our community. The groundbreaking is not just about construction; it’s about growth and momentum. It is an investment in our future. Whether a child dreams of competing at high levels, hosting a party, or wants a place to be active. We look forward to seeing this facility come to life and the next generation of athletes who will train here.

As Mayor of Maple Plain, it was my honor to be part of this community milestone. A special thanks to the leadership of North Shore Gymnastics, its board, Ryan (the executive director), the coaches, staff, and families whose vision made the groundbreaking possible. Thank you to the project partners, architects, builders, City Council members, and staff who helped bring this project forward.

Congratulations to North Shore Gymnastics on breaking ground on your new state-of-the-art facility. We are thrilled you call Maple Plain home and can't wait for the ribbon-cutting ceremony!

Together, we are better!

Special thanks to Officer Eldred for taking pictures and sharing them with me.

The cold weather didn't stop people from attending the community easter egg hunt this morning. The smiles were big and bright, and the baskets were overflowing with eggs. A special thank you to Maple Plain Community Church and Christ Lutheran Church for hosting this free event. There were about 10,000 eggs hidden, free refreshments and donuts, goodie bags for all the children, and raffle prizes. Have a blessed Easter! Together, we are better!

Hennepin County’s public safety relies on a strong Sheriff’s Office. To provide exemplary public safety for all residents, we must maintain the collaboration between our cities, local police departments, and the Sheriff's Office.

Reducing the Sheriff's budget is not an acceptable solution to the county's current budget crisis. While the Sheriff's Office exceeded its budget last year, this was primarily due to staffing shortages and the overtime required to maintain 24/7 services. I anticipate the department will likely be over budget again this year due to the Metro Surge; both factors are outside of the Sheriff's control.

Public safety is a partnership that county taxes should fund. Essential services should not be maintained at the expense of Hennepin County's small cities.

A group of us went to the State Capitol on March 3rd to represent and testify on behalf of the Maple Plain Fire Department Relief Association regaeding the distribution of the PERA surplus funds.

Gratitude to Representative Kristin Robbins and Senator Warren Liimmer for co-authoring the bill, to Anne Finn and Owen Wirth with League of Minnesota Cities and Cap O'Rourke with Minnesot Association of Small Cities for their support and guidance. To date there has been no resolution.

Yesterday, the League of Minnesota Cities hosted City Day on the Hill. About two hundred and fifty city leaders gathered together for a legislative update, to hear from leaders, network, and to advocate. It was my privilege to advocate on behalf of Maple Plain (Hwy 12, Fire Pension, Future Fire District), the Minnesota Association of Small Cities, and all cities represented by the League of Minnesota Cities.
