10 seconds of core sampling in my geomorphology lab. This was the first step in retrieving clay material for radiocarbon dating. A hammer, a galvanized pipe(3"), and duck tape was used to seal off from sun exposure. 2 cores were taken to the lab for dating. Dating for one core came back about 1600 years since deposition. for the upper core, and 10,000 years for the lower core. The core you see being performed here is the lower core.
