Interesting history of the judges of the 173rd District Court. Since the Court’s creation in 1969, the Court has only had three Judges. All three Judges were Governor appointments. Judge Jack Holland was appointed in 1969 when the Court was created by Governor Preston Smith, Judge Dan Moore was appointed in 2005 by Governor Rick Perry and Judge Clint Davis was appointed in 2025 by Governor Greg Abbott.

I posted last week about campaign fundraising and how expensive campaigns can be. We had our first campaign finance reports due today. Through December 31, 2025, I had overall expenses (all from personal funds) of $6,144.48. My opponent in the same period spent $102,007.49. Yes, you read that right, over one hundred thousand dollars and we are only about half way through this race. He is on pace to spend well over $200,000.00 dollars in this race.

He paid $34,243.52 to a Houston firm that conducts "political opposition research" and had them produce some videos for him. He spent over $17,000.00 on a local "campaign consultant". I laugh at that because I have never known the luxury of such things. Me and my dad were my sign crew until he passed in 2014 and now my campaign manager/sign crew is me and Sheila, my wife. That is not to negate the friends, supporters and families that help me out tremendously, we are grateful for all of you, but I won't be paying you $34,000 or even $17,000 to help me! 😁

The first of three fundraising events for my campaign is Tuesday the 13th at 3 P’s in a Vine in Athens. You do not have to donate to attend and I can assure there’s no pressure to donate. Just stop by if you can! I have events in Chandler and the Cedar Creek Lake area upcoming and will announce those as it gets closer.

This week, I will be filing my first campaign finance report. To date, I have spent just under $6,000.00 on campaign related items and have expenses upcoming. Unfortunately, part of running a successful campaign for any office requires funds. Postage, printing costs, signs, mail pieces, social media advertising, etc…. all comes with a cost. Out with the old, in with the new. Now that the Christmas Holiday is coming to a close. I will be out and about later this week and weekend putting out new signs.
