Trees contribute to our community's quality of life, property values, wildlife, and business attractiveness. Perry encourages the planting and maintenance of a variety of trees along our streets as well as in private plantings to enhance the village’s natural beauty.

🤔Trying out some new things at yesterday’s work evening…

🌱 We removed two dead trees and replaced them with Manchurian Ash samplings. We’re trying out plastic tubes, which encourage young trees to grow up straight and can help protect against wind and w**d wackers.

🌿 While the Purple Robe Locust on North Center Street had died, suckers had emerged from the base of its trunk. We decided to cut off the main, dead part of the tree, hoping that one of the suckers will take over and become the new central leader.

👥 Thank you to the Sank family, who volunteered with us yesterday!

🔍 As a reminder, the July Tree Scavenger Hunt is still going on! There are 15 Japanese Lilacs throughout the village. Find at least 10. Take photos of their tags. Send them to us! 🌳Last Saturday, the Village of Perry Tree Board hosted our (belated) Arbor Day Celebration!

♥️We planted a memorial Redbud Tree on behalf of Eugene Hourihan, a beloved Perry resident. His wife, Mary Hourihan of Perry, and daughters, Sarah McLaughlin of Kenmore and Clare Hourihan of Albany, joined the dedication ceremony. Gene loved nature and was able to view Memorial Park (where the tree was planted) from his household.

🔎Winners of the May-June Tree Scavenger Hunt were awarded prizes -- tree saplings! Congratulations to Blake and Jade Russell, and Lena and Chris Sank.

📚The crew headed over to Act 4 Books where guest author Judi Jessick read her children’s book “Agatha Livermore Planted a Tree.”

👀 Keep an eye out for the Tree Board crew Wednesday evenings, when we have our scheduled work get-togethers. Look for our yellow vests! After coordinating 55 tree plantings last year, 15 this spring, and hundreds of village trees in the years prior, we’ve got a lot of life to keep us busy.

🌳 This Saturday at this spot in Memorial Park, we will be planting a memorial tree. It’s just one part of our (belated) Arbor Day celebration on June 20, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.!

🏆 And... (drum roll please!) we have our winners for the May-June Tree Scavenger Hunt! Participants had to find all 7 Catalpa trees located in the Village of Perry, take pictures of those trees, and send them to us.

✨Because the contest was extended over two months, we have decided to award two sets of winners. Congratulations Blake and Jade Russell, as well as Lena and Chris Sank!

Flashback to last year's Arbor Day Celebration!
This year's celebration is Saturday, June 20 from 12-1 p.m.

📍 Meet at Memorial Park (near the Farmers Market, at the junction of Main St. and Dolbeer St.)
Schedule:
🌳 12:00 p.m. at Memorial Park: community tree planting of a Forest Pansy Redbud. This tree was donated by Felisa and Stan McKay in memory of Eugene “Gene” Hourihan.
📚 12:30 p.m. at Act 4 Books: Winners of the Perry Central School PoeTREE contest will read poems. Plus, guest author, Judi Jessick, will read her book “Agatha Livermore Planted a Tree” and sign copies.

🏆 April’s Tree Scavenger Hunt Winners!

🌳 Out of all the scavenger participants, Kimmie Hill McDanel and her son found the most Redbud trees in the village. They found 11 of the village’s 13 Redbud trees! (Plus a bonus Redbud in their yard.) As a prize, they chose a $10 Give Perry Gift Certificate.
