It’s National Small Business Week, May 3–9!

This week, we want to say thank you to the small businesses that help make Pendleton County feel like home.

From our local shops and restaurants to service providers, farms, makers, contractors, and entrepreneurs, small businesses are the heart of our community. They create jobs, support local families, sponsor our events, welcome our visitors, and give Pendleton County its character.

This week — and every week — let’s show our appreciation by shopping local, dining local, booking local, and recommending local.

When you support a small business, you’re supporting a neighbor, a dream, and the future of our community.

Thank you, Pendleton County small businesses — we appreciate you!

(Hopkinsville, KY) - Pendleton County Economic Development Director, Tami Vater, recently served as a panel speaker at the Kentucky Association for Economic Development’s Collaboration Conference in Hopkinsville.

Vater joined Andy Games with the Elizabethtown-Hardin County Industrial Foundation; Michael Yoder, Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Workforce Development; and Kristina Slattery, Commissioner of the Kentucky Department for Business and Community Development for a discussion on how communities can prepare for and respond to plant closure notifications.

The panel highlighted the importance of a proactive, coordinated response through Rapid Response efforts and Kentucky’s statewide SWATT initiative, which is designed to deliver fast, coordinated solutions during crisis moments.

“When we learned of the upcoming Hammer Strength closure in Falmouth, it was important to bring the right partners to the table quickly,” Vater said. “Our focus was twofold — to help develop a plan to support the soon-to-be displaced workers and to begin working toward recruiting a new industry to take its place.”
