🚧 RAILROAD CROSSING CLOSURES 🚧

Norfolk Southern will be closing the following railroad crossings for repairs:

Monday – September 14th
ADM Crossing
Main Cross Street Crossing
Franklin Street Crossing

Tuesday – September 15th
Palmer Street Crossing
Shumway Street Crossing

Please plan accordingly and allow extra time for alternate routes while the crossings are closed.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS
Starting on Thursday, September 10, W. Main Cross from Webster St. to Houston St. will be closed for the installation of the surface course of asphalt. W. Main Cross along with the cross streets will remain closed for several days until all the asphalt is installed and allowed to set. Once it has set, the road will be reopened to local traffic. Afterwords, work on the boulevards in project limits will continue as they will be graded, raked, tilled and seeded. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

8-24-2026 Press Release from Mayor Bruce Barry

“I would like to announce the formation of the Downtown Project Advisory Committee. Anyone wishing to be considered for this Committee should e-mail me at [email protected] no later than September 14th.
The purpose of this Advisory Committee is to provide independent advice and recommendations to support the Downtown Square Improvement Project. This Committee will meet periodically at a time the Committee choses. In addition, we plan to have another public meeting on 9/23/26 to review updated information on the Downtown Square Improvements Project. More details to follow.”

W. Main Cross Construction Update

Work is progressing ahead of schedule on the W. Main Cross Improvements Project. Curb & gutter is scheduled to be installed between Madison and Shumway in the following week.
Also, concrete sidewalks and driveway approach's are to be installed between Shumway St. and Powers St. on the south side of W. Main Cross in the next two weeks. Thank you for your patience as work continues.

Safe Route to Schools and Adams St. Storm Sewer and Resurfacing

On Monday 07/20, Adams St. from Washington St. to Main St. will be closed for the installation of storm sewer, sidewalk installations, and road resurfacing. This closure will include these two intersections as well.

Notice of Work

The Taylorville Safe Routes to School and Adam Street Reconstruction projects are set to resume work on Monday, July 6, 2026. This work will include new sidewalks, storm sewer improvements, and a full roadway reconstruction. Please be aware of temporary road closures along Adam Street from the intersection of Washington Street and South Main St.

Taylorville Fourth of July Parade Route

Get your lawn chairs, flags, and red, white, and blue ready! Join us as we celebrate Independence Day with our annual Fourth of July parade!

Parade route;

Start at the Christian County Fairgrounds
Head east on Main Cross Street
Turn right onto Houston Street
Continue two blocks on Houston Street
Turn left onto Franklin Street
Follow Franklin Street to Webster Street (at the Christian County Sheriff’s Office)
Turn left onto Webster Street and head north
Turn right onto Main Cross Street
Continue around the square to complete the parade route.

Bring your family, friends, and patriotic spirit as we celebrate our nations 250th birthday together!

We cannot wait to see our community line the street and help us make this year’s parade one to remember. Please arrive early to find the perfect view viewing spot, and remember to help keep our community clean by picking up your trash after the festivities.

🔥 Cooling Center Available 🔥

Due to the extreme heat, the Taylorville Fire Department will be open as a Cooling Center for anyone needing relief from the high temperatures.

🕗 Hours: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

If you or someone you know needs a cool place to escape the heat, please stop by. Stay hydrated, check on your neighbors, especially older adults and those without air conditioning, and stay safe during this heat wave.
