Maine State Ferry Service The Maine State Ferry Service serves six islands in Penobscot and Blue Hill Bays. This is the official page of the Maine State Ferry Service.

Ferry Service customers,
Please do not ask the ferry crews to carry or deliver items for you on the ferry. I have instructed them not to do this, as it is not part of their job description and they are not authorized to do this for legal and liability reasons. This is especially true for medicine and medical supplies. Please direct any questions to the Director, Maine State Ferry Service.

Notice - Parking Lot Changes in Rockland

Buses will now be stopping at the front of the building.
There is no longer any loading/unloading of vehicles at the front of the building. There are designated 30-minute parking spots available for your use.

The start of the Vinalhaven overflow line is now at the bottom of the parking lot by the stop sign (the former bus stop area). Once this line is full you will then go across the top of the parking lot and when that line is full you will go into the right-hand corner of the lot by the exit.

As always if you need assistance just find one of our employees with a yellow vest and they will be happy to help you.

North Haven / Rockland. On Saturday, August 15, 2026 there is a propane truck scheduled on the 7:30am ferry from North Haven to Rockland, returning on the 2:20 ferry from Rockland to North Haven.

As a reminder, please do not look directly at a solar eclipse as it will hurt or damage your eyes.

There will be a partial solar eclipse today (Wednesday 12 August) starting about 12:54pm and ending about 2:54pm.

Rockland Terminal parking lot temporary parking ban notice for the North Haven and Vinalhaven lines.

We will be painting the lines in the Rockland Terminal parking lot for North Haven lines on 8/13/26.

-NO PARKING in the Green and Blue lines from 5:15pm on 8/13/26 until 5:00am on 8/14/26.


We will be painting the lines in the Rockland Terminal parking lot for the Vinalhaven lines on 8/14/26.

-NO PARKING in the Yellow and Red lines from 4:30pm on 8/14/26 until 5:00am on 8/15/26.

Any vehicles left in these lines during these specific times will be towed at the owner’s expense. Thank you for your assistance
