Having questions or issues with your health insurance coverage? Vermont Department of Financial Regulation can help!

We protect Vermonters by making sure insurance companies follow the law. That includes laws like the Vermont Access to Birth Control Act, and laws requiring plans to cover preventive services and telehealth at low or no cost.

DFR’s investigation led to insurers repaying $1.5m to 9,000 Vermonters who were charged incorrectly for contraceptive care.

Taking care of yourself doesn’t stop after your postpartum checkup. Keeping up with recommended preventive care and screenings – like Pap tests, depression screening, or mammograms – is one way to show up for yourself and your loved ones. Because feeling your best should be a priority, not an afterthought.

Plans on Vermont Health Connect and many employer plans cover recommended screenings and other preventive and reproductive health services at no cost to you, when provided according to guidelines.

And if your insurer denies coverage or charges cost-share incorrectly, you have the right to file a complaint or appeal.

We get it - it is hard to find a doctor these days without waiting for weeks or traveling miles away. But that doesn’t mean you need to rely on a chatbot or social media for your most personal health questions.

DFR protects Vermonters by making sure insurance companies follow the law. This includes state laws that require state-regulated health plans to cover telehealth care at the same level as in-person care.

When you can’t afford to wait, telehealth lets you talk to a trusted health care provider fast— without leaving your home.

Many reproductive services can be provided via telehealth, like prescription refills and contraceptive counseling.

Check your plan’s telehealth coverage, make an appointment, and talk to a real health care professional via secure video or phone call right from your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

We protect Vermonters by making sure insurance companies follow the law, including the Vermont Access to Birth Control Act. This law requires state-regulated health plans to cover birth control and related care at no cost.

Talking to your health care provider about birth control options, getting a 12-month supply of birth control, IUD placements or other procedures, and follow-up visits – your plan may cover all of these services at no cost to you*!

In Vermont, pharmacists can prescribe certain birth control methods, depending on your plan.

If you are denied coverage or charged out-of-pocket for contraceptive care, you have the right to file a complaint or appeal.
