We're sending out EXTRA SPECIAL HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES to our dear friend and CAL member, Helen Stewart. This amazing lady is 101 years young today! Her CAL Craft Gathering friends celebrated this notable occasion with her this week, showering her with flowers, gifts and her favorite chocolate brownies. Hmmm, maybe chocolate is the secret to longevity! Happy Birthday Helen!

Happy August everyone! We still have loads of great summer days ahead, despite the occasional rainy day. Here at the center our days have been filled with good times spent with CAL friends. We learned more about York history with James Kences, and the ins & outs of estate planning with Britton Garon. AARP Volunteers Rich and Neal, educated our members on the CarFit program. We've played some pickleball with Mike Vassey and danced up a storm at the Sock Hop. We've traveled from Canada to Boston with several destinations in between. And of course we've had our share of great summer ice cream! What's been the best part of your summer?

'Exploring with Art' took the CAL group to Newburyport this week. Members enjoyed a fantastic tour with docent Donna at the Custom House Maritime Museum learning about the active port town and it's shipbuilding history during the American Revolution. A little shopping, a delicious lunch and walking the Riverwalk made for a perfect day out, complete with a surprise thunderstorm!

Happy 4th Everyone! The Center for Active Living will be closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of the holiday. The center will reopen on Monday, July 6th.

CAL's Open House was a great success! The CAL staff, volunteer members & instructors along with several of our collaborators, welcomed guests from York and the seacoast area. The center was buzzing with introductions and conversations as our guests toured the center and learned about our programs and events. Thank you to all who played a part in this worthwhile event. The CAL community is growing!

Greg & Marilyn Fyfe's Sock Hop was spectacular! The weather cooperated and everyone had a super fun time. The unveiling of the rebuilt juke box was a proud moment for Greg as he and his son, Doug, spent dozens of hours bringing this beauty back to life. It is now well stocked with 45's from the 50's, 60's & 70's. Local band, 3 Shades of Gray, provided a rockin' good time in the second half of the evening with everyone's favorite dance tunes. Classic cars, burgers & dogs, music and friends that love to have a good time - what a fantastic way to welcome summer! Kudos to Greg and Marilyn and big thanks to all who helped make this such a memorable event❤️
