Did you know?
The U.S. Postal Service recently changed how frequently mail is transported to regional processing centers where postmarks are applied. As a result, some mail may no longer receive a postmark dated the same day it is dropped off or collected, which could be problematic for time-sensitive filings and payments. Customers can still ensure a same-day postmark by requesting a free manual postmark at a USPS retail counter.

Follow this link for an important update to "Postmarks and Possession" in United States Postal System. " If customers are aware that the postmark date may not align with the date on which the Postal Service first accepted possession of a mail piece, they will be better equipped to adjust their plans accordingly. And if policymakers or other entities that create rules utilizing the postmark date are aware of what the postmark date signifies, they are better equipped to determine whether their rules adequately serve their purposes."

The Postal Service is adding section 608.11, "Postmarks and Postal Possession," to the Domestic Mail Manual (DMM). This new section defines postmarks, identifies the types of Postal Service markings that qualify as postmarks, and describes the circumstances under which those markings are applied....
