Welcome back Madison students and can someone please send us the petition to bring back a little rain to sign!?

It’s however many months post Helene now and we are still in the market for donations and assistance. Each passing week our department grows a little more but we had a huge boost to kick off our spring all thanks to the Town of Woodfin Police Department. Chief Boykin and crew generously donated us with multiple sets of stop sticks, vehicle lighting equipment, in-car computer stands and mobile printers for our patrol officers.

Some of these may seem like small hand-me-down items but to us, it’s a huge deal and allows our officers to more efficiently handle roadside business and assistance while maintaining a strong sense of officer safety like keeping eyes on stopped vehicles and subjects. Every little thing counts from the ink in our pen to making sure everyone goes home at the end of the day.

Town of Woodfin PD et al, we are proud to be so close to you and have enjoyed establishing and growing our professional relationship. We may be small, but we are here to help. Thank you for providing us with more of the valuable and vital equipment we need to support and provide our services to our community and those we serve. In other words, “we sure do preciate yuns”!

Hello again, family and friends,

We truly hope that everyone enjoyed a beautiful Easter holiday weekend. For some, Spring break is coming to an end, while for others, they are about to start. Maybe even more others already had their fun in the sun, but either way, we're glad you're here!

Each month claims attention and awareness for one or more causes. We aim to support each of them the best we can. As our partnership with the Health Department and active seat with the Madison Mental Health and Substance Awareness Coalition remain strong, we would like to join them in bringing focus not only to reducing but also eliminating Child Abuse. Not to make light of the cause or message, but a key takeaway goes back to "if you see something, say something". There is nothing wrong with bringing questionable occurrences or visuals to the attention of appropriate persons and officials. The Sheriff's office has provided each of our schools with a School Resource Officer (SRO) to speak to, and every other law enforcement officer within the county should have no issue taking calls and listening to concerns of a related nature.

Please, seek assistance at the Social Services office on the bypass (5707 US 25/70 HWY) next to Family Dollar, call your local authority, or, if emergent, you can always call 9-1-1. We are all here to help, so let us know how we can. Stay vigilant, stay aware, and help our community become a model for those around us to protect our youth and provide the various services they may need.

Stay safe and let us know how we can help. Call/text 828.380.2921

Its Friday at last!

Very important for locals and all who visit and frequent our beloved Blannahassett Island, (the second N has been heavily debated).

As the town of Marshall is going through recovery and improvement phases post-Helene, this is an opportunity to voice opinions, share ideas, and explore potential opportunities for a landmark known for generations. We hope to see you all there!

Who's ready for Spring Break?!

Before we get much further into the new year, we wanted to share a few highlights of our police department's accomplishments. We want to keep sharing our achievements and letting our community know the strides we have made throughout the year, and what you can expect from us. Here they are.

• We certified 3 officers on INTOX, providing not only our department, but any other law enforcement officer in Madison County who wishes or needs to process any person who has been arrested under the influence of an impairing substance.
• Certified 4 officers in SFST (Standard Field Sobriety Testing) to aid in establishing probable cause on subjects who may be impaired
• We were successfully evaluated and passed the Governor's Crime Commission Site Inspection
• Hired 3 reserve officers who have already assisted in covering shifts and extra duty events, allowing for better law enforcement coverage and getting our full-time officers to necessary schools and trainings with more to come
• Hired a full-time officer who has assessed, established, and taken control of our property and evidence management system
• Created and established a neighborhood watch program
• Developed and implemented a Field Training Program that encompasses over 400 logged training hours, where trainees gain firsthand field experience in crash investigations, patrol techniques, traffic stop requirements, court and dispatch observations, general investigations, search and seizure training, and more through the various phases of our 4-phase training program.
• Outside of the neighborhood watch program, we have incorporated new strategies for community policing, such as offering safety and security walkthroughs for private and commercial buildings, collecting and updating our emergency contact lists for businesses, and gathering spare keys to help reduce the need to cause property damage in the event of an emergency that requires entry outside of business hours.
• We have started to hold quarterly staff meetings where camaraderie and faces can remain current and intact. With only one officer working at a time, we get a chance to see and speak to each other face-to-face to brainstorm and explore even more ideas and issues that others may not be aware of, and more.
• We have retained and grown our partnership beyond the Health Department and Department of Juvenile Justice to include holding a chair in both the Madison County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and the Madison County Public Safety Board
• We teamed up again with the Madison County Health Department to oversee the Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP) raising over $1,100.00
• Through maintaining networking and communication, we have been donated body worn cameras from police chief Jamey Kitchens and the Grovetown Police Department saving our department over thousands of dollars.
• Lastly, we scheduled and sat down with NC Attorney General, Jeff Jackson. We were able to express our concern with issues from small town funds and grants as it relates to necessary equipment allocation and availability. We also expressed concern with adult and juvenile crime issues relatable not only to us here in Marshall, but likewise in surrounding areas. We were joined by the Town of Mars Hill, the Town of Weaverville, the City of Asheville, the Town of Woodfin and even Biltmore Forrest to team up and express how greatly affected we have been by the downfalls and short comings of parts of our judicial process and overall justice system. We all had great collaboration and the AG, and staff have been very responsive, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with their high office and promoting positive results moving forward.

Thank you everyone for your support, and please, let us know how we can help. Call/text: 828.380.2921

Good morning Marshall it’s NEW SIGN Tuesday!
Super big huge thanks and shoutout to our Town of Marshall Public Works crew for replacing our damaged radar speed display sign today! Visibility, awareness, and a little self policing to help monitor and make motorists aware of our downtown roads speed limits. The sign is installed on S. Main St in the same location as our old one so there’s still some familiarity but be advised that we are still working on placing a few more in the upcoming months.

This sign from Kustom Signals Inc. was made possible by our partnership with the NC Governor’s Highway Safety Program and participating in the public safety events throughout the year. Thank you again Town of Marshall Public Works team for fighting the cold, helping our police department, and all the other maintanance, safety, and equipment management that y’all do no matter what the weather or environmental situation is. Yall truly are a backbone of our towns ability to succeed so thank you again!!!

Help us show thanks members and as always, let us know how we can help. Call/text: 828.380.2921

Members,
Thank you everyone for taking notice and paying attention to the road and weather hazards that many public safety agencies and related entities have been posting the past few weeks. We were fortunate to have very minimal vehicle accidents. As a matter of fact, our department didn't need to work a single reportable weather-related vehicle accident so thank you all again.

HOWEVER, keep in mind that there have been an increasing number of calls related to vehicles involving wildlife. DID YOU KNOW, Wake County, NC recorded over 2600 animal crashes last year with about 10% being deer?! We want you to be mindful not only about weather and road conditions but all other potential hazards as well. According to the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Traffic Safety Unit, about 8 percent of all vehicle crashes in the state involve animal strikes – most of these involve deer. SO, here is some information provided by the NCDOT to consider while operating vehicles especially around our rural areas and curvy roads!

-Always maintain a safe amount of distance between your vehicle and others, especially at night. If the vehicle ahead of you hits a deer, you could also become involved in the crash.

-Slowdown in areas posted with deer crossing signs and in heavily wooded areas, especially during the late afternoon and evening.

-Most deer-vehicle crashes occur where deer are more likely to travel, near bridges or overpasses, railroad tracks, streams and ditches.

-Drive with high beams on when possible and watch for deer eyes reflecting in the headlights.

-Deer often travel in small herds so if you see one deer near a road be alert for others.

-If you see deer near a road, slow down and blow your horn with one long blast

-Do not swerve to avoid a collision. This could cause you to lose control of your vehicle and cause a more serious crash.

-If your vehicle does strike a deer, do not touch the animal. A frightened and wounded deer can be dangerous or further injure itself. Get your vehicle off the road, if possible, and call 911.

Enjoy the day, stay safe, and let us know how we can help. Call/text: 828-380-2921

Happy snowy Monday folks,

This is just a reminder to please keep unnecessary travel off the roads. Side by sides, 4 wheelers, any other ATV and “non vehicle” transportation needs to be taken seriously and with safety as a first priority. Just because a FEW main roads are cleared up is not an invitation to try your luck. Emergencies of course are at your discretion but please call and allow emergency personnel and operators to handle what they can for you instead. After all, that’s why they are here.

Consider the consequences of you and your families safety when you decide to gamble just to see what the roads are like. It’s winter, it’s snowy, it’s cold and the more cars on snowy roads makes it harder and harder to get them cleared up. Best practice is to stay safe at home.
