June is for Dairy!! We celebrated National Dairy Month at Marion Elementary today with yogurt Parfaits. The yogurt was Upstate yogurt which supports lots of dairies locally. The dairies in Marion that ship to Upstate Farms are: Ranway Farms LLC and Vandorp Farms. Thank you to our local dairy farms!

Yesterday, and today was all about potatoes: salt potatoes and mashed potatoes! The potatoes came from Bushart Farms here in Marion. Thank you to our cafeteria staff for preparing and serving our students everyday. The kids all enjoyed the samples they had.

We would like to say thank you to Ranway Farms LLC for supplying us with beef for our Farm to Table program at the elementary school. Here is some information about the farm.

Owners: Shane and Shannon Schultz

Ranway Farms is a family owned farm that is located in Marion, NY. Ranway Farms is a Dairy, that also has beef, pork and seasonal vegetables (pumpkins and squash).

We would like to say thank you to Williams Cattle, LLC for supplying us with beef for our Farm to Table program at the elementary school. Here is some information about the farm.

Owners: Michael Williams & John Williams

Williams Cattle is a family owned farm that has been in the beef and vegetable business since 2008, located in Marion, NY. Williams Cattle takes pride in producing high quality, all natural beef and locally grown fruits and vegetables. We look forward to continuing to provide products for our local community.

Fun fact, the first cow on the farm is named Toby!

MES enjoyed a sweet treat today!! Thanks to Cummings Maple Farm and Melanie Cummings for supplying the maple syrup. The cafeteria staff used the sweet syrup to dress up Brussel sprouts and boy were they a hit!!

Yesterday, the Marion Elementary Staff served 3 dishes all containing cabbage!! They had a cabbage casserole, cole slaw and sauerkraut cake! The cabbage was from Bushart Farms here in Marion. Thank you to our cafeteria staff for preparing and serving our students everyday. The kids all enjoyed the samples they had.

Yesterday was potato” day at Marion Elementary!!!! Our school cafeteria roasted potatoes and I got to welcome all the students dressed like a potato head!! It was the highlight of my day!!! I did my best to bring “Mrs. Brown’s” energy!!! Thanks to Barb and the cafeteria staff for decorating the cafeteria for the kids!!! Did you know that:
1. Potatoes were the first vegetable grown in space.
2. A sweet potato isn't actually a potato.
3. When you buy them, potatoes are still alive.
4. Potato chips, as we know them, were invented by mistake.
5. The Incas used potatoes to help a toothache.

Squash Day at Marion Elementary School!! All students had an opportunity to try squash during lunch, it was a perfect add-on to their Thanksgiving feast!! Thank you to Ranway Farms of Marion for providing us with the squash for our students!
