PARENT & COMMUNITY AWARENESS: 7-OH PRODUCTS

The Lexington Police Department would like parents and community members to be aware of products containing 7-OH (7-hydroxymitragynine), a substance associated with kratom that is increasingly being sold in places such as gas stations, convenience stores, smoke shops, and online.

These products may be marketed or packaged as tablets, gummies, shots, or flavored drink mixes which can make them appear similar to ordinary supplements or energy products.

7-OH acts on opioid receptors and can be highly potent and addictive. Use can lead to dependence, withdrawal, sedation, and potentially dangerous breathing problems and especially when combined with alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or other substances that cause sedation.

We encourage parents to talk with their children and teens about these products and to pay attention to packaging labeled “7-OH,” “7-hydroxymitragynine,” or concentrated kratom. Something being available for purchase at a local store does not necessarily mean it is harmless.

More information about 7-OH and educational resources for families can be found here:

7-OH information and resources: https://www.addicted.org/addiction/opioids/7-oh/

Please share this information with other parents and caregivers. Awareness and education are important parts of keeping our community safe.

7-hydroxymitragynine, known as 7-OH, is an opioid compound concentrated from the kratom plant and sold as gummies, tablets, and shots at gas stations and corner stores. The FDA says it can be more potent than morphine, and federal scheduling efforts are underway but have not yet taken effect.

What an awesome way to wrap up our first-ever Dunk Tank Fundraiser for Special Olympics! 💦🚔

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out, took a few throws, volunteered, got dunked, and helped make the event such a success. Most importantly, every dollar raised goes toward supporting our Special Olympics Athletes! ❤️

Special thanks to our friends from Heartland Bank and Trust Company, Tomi's Essential Coffee, & Ultra Physical Therapy who went above and beyond by having their own friendly fundraising competition and helping us raise even more! We cannot forget about Mrs. Wilson, Mr. Mayor, and Mr Dawes for their time!!!

We also couldn’t have made this happen without LeRoy IL Police Department for letting us use their dunk tank and the Lexington Fire Department - Illinois for supplying the water and helping us get everything ready.

Thank you!!

We’re out here!!! Come get in some throws for a GREAT CAUSE! Come see us until 5pm!

What an incredible day! 💙✈️

On behalf of the Lexington Responders team, we want to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported, donated, volunteered, and cheered us on during the First Annual Plane Pull for Special Olympics Illinois. Your generosity and support helped raise an incredible amount of money that will directly benefit Special Olympics athletes and provide opportunities for them to compete, grow, and succeed.

A special thank you goes out to the members of the Lexington Fire Department and Chenoa Police Department for participating and helping make this event a success. It was great to come together as neighboring agencies for such an outstanding cause.

We are proud to have represented our communities and look forward to making an even bigger impact next year! Congrats to the ISU Football Team on taking home the W!
