🚨🌞 SHELBY COUNTY WEEKEND SURVIVAL GUIDE: PANCAKES, ROCKS, BINGO, DOGS, WAGYU, AND POSSIBLY SOME WEATHER 🌞🚨

From your friends at Shelby County Emergency Management & 911 Communications

Well folks, we made it to the weekend.

The weather forecast looks like Kentucky finally remembered it’s June:

☀️ Saturday: Partly sunny, high near 87°
🌙 Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, low near 68°

⛈️ Sunday: High near 85° with a 40% chance Mother Nature remembers she owns a water hose.
⚡ Sunday Night: A few thunderstorms may wander through looking for trouble.

And then…

🌧️🌧️🌧️ NEXT WEEK’S FORECAST
Rain.
More rain.
A little extra rain.
Followed by a chance of rain discussing future rain opportunities.

Kentucky weather has apparently entered its annual “rice farming experiment” phase.

🏃 BAGDAD RURITAN 5K RUN

Saturday morning starts with people voluntarily running 3.1 miles.

For those unfamiliar with emergency management terminology, this is known as:

“An unnecessary self-evacuation event.”

🏃 Fun Fact:
The average 5K participant burns approximately 300-500 calories.

The average pancake breakfast participant immediately replaces all of them within 14 minutes.

Coincidentally, that’s why the pancakes are located at the finish line.

🪨 KENTUCKY STONE SKIPPING INVITATIONAL

Lake Shelby will once again host one of Kentucky’s most elite sporting events.

Rock skipping is the only sport where:

✅ Picking up random rocks is encouraged.
✅ Throwing them into a lake is celebrated.
✅ Nobody really knows if they’re practicing or just killing time.

🪨 Fun Fact:
The world record stone skip is 88 skips.

Most of us are currently tied at one.

Some of us accidentally throw the rock straight up and create our own emergency.

Please maintain a safe distance from overly confident uncles.

🐶 MISPITS AT THE LOT

Need a dog?

Need emotional support?

Need someone to judge your life choices while simultaneously loving you unconditionally?

This is your event.

Fair warning:

You may arrive “just to look.”

You will leave with:
✔ A dog
✔ Dog treats
✔ A new best friend
✔ A bank account that somehow became lighter

🛍️ POP-UP SPRING MARKET

Support local vendors!

Because Amazon has enough money.

You’ll find:
🕯️ Handmade items
🍞 Baked goods
🎨 Crafts
🎁 Things you didn’t know you needed until your spouse says,
“Chris, where are we putting THAT?”

🎱 FAMILY BINGO NIGHT

Nothing brings a family together quite like screaming:

“BINGO!”

Three seconds before realizing you forgot one square.

🎱 Fun Fact:
The game of Bingo originated from a lottery-style game in Italy in the 1500s.

Which means people have been arguing about whether they actually won for over 500 years.

🎸 JOSHUA MICHAEL BOGARD AT KENTUCKY HILLS WAGYU

Saturday evening.

Good music.
Good food.
Good people.

If you attend every event on this list, this is where you arrive looking exhausted while pretending you still have energy.

OFFICIAL SHELBY COUNTY WEEKEND RECOMMENDATION

Saturday:
🏃 Run a 5K.
🥞 Eat pancakes.
🪨 Throw rocks.
🐶 Pet dogs.
🛍️ Buy things.
🎱 Play Bingo.
🎸 Listen to live music.
✌️ And people says there’s nothing to do in Shelby County

Sunday:
🌧️ Stand on your porch and stare at the approaching rain while making weather predictions with absolutely no scientific basis.

Examples include:

👉 “We need it.”
👉 “It’s gonna split.”
👉 “My knee says it’s coming.”
👉 “The cows are laying down.”

Have a safe and wonderful weekend, Shelby County!

And remember…

If you see someone running, skipping rocks, yelling BINGO, carrying shopping bags, eating pancakes, petting a dog, and listening to country music all in the same day…

They’re probably just trying to complete the 2026 Shelby County Weekend Challenge. 🏆😂

As we are working through Friday. Let’s all think about something.

It seems that somewhere along the way, many of us have become so comfortable that we spend more time focusing on what is wrong than appreciating what is right.

We complain about the weather, our jobs, traffic, politics, social media, the service at a restaurant, and sometimes even the very blessings we once prayed for. In a world where we have more conveniences, technology, and opportunities than generations before us could have imagined, dissatisfaction often seems louder than gratitude.

That doesn’t mean life is perfect. People face real struggles every day. Challenges are real. Pain is real. But there is a difference between acknowledging difficulties and allowing negativity to become our default language.

A community is strengthened not by the number of complaints it produces, but by the number of people willing to become part of the solution.

What if we chose to encourage more than criticize?

What if we thanked the waitress, waved at the sanitation worker, checked on the elderly neighbor, supported local businesses, volunteered in our communities, or simply listened to someone who needed a friend?

What if we spent as much energy building up as we do tearing down?

Being a good neighbor doesn’t require a title, a position, or a paycheck. It starts with kindness. It starts with grace. It starts with remembering that every person we encounter is carrying a burden we may know nothing about.

The world doesn’t need more outrage. It needs more understanding.

It doesn’t need more people pointing out problems. It needs more people willing to lend a hand.

Today, let’s choose gratitude over grumbling, compassion over criticism, and service over self-interest. A stronger community begins with ordinary people making extraordinary choices to care for one another.

The amazing thing about kindness is that it spreads. One act of encouragement can change a day. One helping hand can change a life. And enough good neighbors can change an entire community.

Let’s be those neighbors. ❤️

🍩🚔 It’s National Donut Day This Friday! 🚔🍩

From all of us at Shelby County Emergency Management & 911 Communications, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank our incredible local law enforcement officers for everything they do to keep our community safe.

Now, we know there are a lot of donut jokes out there… and honestly, resisting them is a hole lot harder than resisting a fresh glazed donut. 😆

So in the spirit of National Donut Day:

🍩 Why do cops love donuts? Because they always know how to handle a “glazed” situation.

🍩 What’s a police officer’s favorite type of donut? One with a good cop-ping of sprinkles!

🍩 And remember: We can neither confirm nor deny that squad cars are equipped with advanced donut-detection technology. 😉

All jokes aside, we deeply appreciate the dedication, professionalism, and sacrifice our law enforcement partners demonstrate every day. Whether they’re answering calls, helping citizens, investigating crimes, directing traffic, or responding during emergencies, they work tirelessly to serve and protect our community.

As a small token of our appreciation, we invite all of our local law enforcement officers to stop by Shelby County Emergency Management & 911 Communications on Friday and grab a donut while supplies last. Our dispatchers would love to see you and say thank you in person!

Stay safe, enjoy a sweet treat, and know that your hard work does not go unnoticed.

💙🚔🍩 Happy National Donut Day from Shelby County Emergency Management & 911 Communications! 🍩🚔💙

📢🚨 SHELBY COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨📢

Attention Shelby County residents!

If you’re out and about and suddenly hear sirens, don’t panic! No, the firefighters aren’t chasing a runaway barbecue grill or responding to a squirrel uprising (at least not today). Chances are, they’re out collecting donations for the amazing annual WHAS Crusade for Children!

Every year, firefighters across our community trade hoses for donation boots and take to intersections and roadblocks to raise money that comes right back into the communities they serve. And here’s the best part:

✅ Donations are not used for administrative costs.
✅ Donations are not given directly to individual families.
✅ Donations help local Crusade agencies purchase medical equipment, sensory tools, therapy programs, and educational materials that improve the lives of children with special needs.

Even better, thanks to donated goods and services, the Crusade provides a 100% Guarantee: 100% of your monetary donation goes directly to helping children.

Right here in Shelby County, one organization benefiting from Crusade funding is the Dorman Center, which provides valuable services and opportunities for individuals with disabilities and special needs. Donations help organizations like this continue making a difference every day.

So the next time you hear those sirens in your neighborhood or encounter a firefighter roadblock, don’t just wave and drive by. Roll down the window, say hello, and toss a few dollars in the boot. Every donation—large or small—helps provide resources, opportunities, and support for local children and families.

Remember: Those sirens aren’t asking for an emergency response from you—they’re inviting you to help create one less emergency for a child in need.

❤️🚒 Give when you can. Stop when you see us. Help us make a difference—one donation at a time.

This message is brought to you by Shelby County Emergency Management, reminding you that sometimes the best way to answer a siren is with generosity.

Happy Tuesday all! Have a great day. The sun is shining in Shelby County and no rain in the forecast.

For my I65 commuters! Tomorrow is the day! Make sure you have a plan….

05/30/2026

This morning, we kicked off the day with a work detail at our Emergency Management barn, reloading and preparing our sheltering trailer for future response needs. We were grateful to have an amazing group of volunteers from Phos Community Church in Crestwood join us and lend a helping hand. Their support and dedication made a big difference.

A sincere thank-you to everyone who participated. Neighbors helping neighbors and people helping people—that’s what it’s all about! 💙 -Chris

Exciting progress on the new Shelby County Public Safety Building!

This facility will bring together a tornado-safe room, Emergency Operations Center, Emergency Management offices, and a state-of-the-art 911 Communications Center—all under one roof to better serve Shelby County.

A huge thank you to Churchill McGee, our architects, all of the subcontractors, and our amazing Shelby County Road Department for their hard work and support throughout this project. We couldn’t do it without you!
