Mississippi has experienced continuous heavy rainfall, strong winds, and widespread flooding associated with Tropical Storm Arthur. We are now forecasted to see additional heavy rainfall in the affected areas of our state. Therefore, I have declared a State of Emergency in areas of Mississippi affected or potentially affected by these storms.

The storms have damaged homes, businesses, and public property while threatening the safety of Mississippians and their property throughout our state. At least 10 counties have been impacted, impairing roadways, energy infrastructure, and important natural resources.

The State of Emergency will allow us to further mobilize state assets and better support response efforts in counties affected by the storm. It will remain in effect until the threat to public safety ceases to exist.

Please continue to stay weather aware and safe, Mississippi!

⚠️ FLASH FLOOD THREAT TODAY ⚠️

Most of Mississippi is under an Elevated (Level 2) flash flood threat through this afternoon as heavy rainfall moves across the state.

🌧️ 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible, may fall in a short period of time over already saturated soils.

Potential impacts include:
🚧 Flooded roads
🏠 Minor flooding of structures
🌊 Flash flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas

If you encounter a flooded roadway, remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown. Just a few inches of moving water can sweep away a vehicle.
Stay weather aware and monitor local forecasts and alerts throughout the day.
