Everyone should vote! It’s one of the greatest freedoms we have - people have fought and died to protect it!

Make today’s National Voter Registration Day count by registering or taking someone else to get registered today. Mississippi has the highest percentage of Black residents in the United States. Yet the state held the highest number of Black lawmakers in the state legislature during the Reconstruction Era, in the 1870s. That was shortly after the Emancipation Proclamation and before white supremacist violence, and later the 1890 constitution dismantled those gains.

Those facts paint a picture of the major setback caused by extreme intimidation. It was literally over a century ago, but the repercussions still linger. Race isn’t the goal, but representation does matter.

Trying to register was scary then; seeing what happens when you don’t vote is scary now. Today, you won’t lose your job or your life if you register to vote. Give an honorary thank you to those who were deprived by simply doing what many of them couldn’t.

You do not need to be a chamber member to attend. This is a great opportunity to hear from all 4 candidates running to be our next representative. See you there.

Mark Your Calendars! The Magee Chamber of Commerce is hosting a membership breakfast on September 10, 2026 at 7:00 a.m. You will have time to stop for breakfast, network with community business people AND meet the candidates for District 77 Representative.

Your chamber of commerce does not endorse political speakers but serves as a neutral convener that connects the business community and voters with the people running for public office. Our purpose is to help community members and business owners hear directly from candidates to make informed choices at the ballot and establish a collaborative bridge between future elected officials and the local business network.

The Magee Police Department will be conducting an enforcement blitz throughout the city.

Our officers will be out in increased numbers focusing on speeding, reckless driving, impaired driving, seat belt violations, distracted driving, and other dangerous violations that put people at risk.

This is not about writing as many tickets as possible. It is about keeping our roads safe and preventing someone from getting seriously hurt or killed.

If you are driving through Magee, slow down, buckle up, stay off your phone, and do not drive impaired.

We have said it before, and we will continue to say it: public safety is our top priority.

Drive safe and handle your business accordingly.
