Yesterday, Owen's Place hosted a beautiful Children’s Mental Health Day event right in the neighborhood where their facility is located at 4610 W. Fond du Lac. During Mental Health Awareness Month, it was so heartwarming to see so many community members come out and take advantage of everything being offered for our kids and families. Just about every resource you could think of was there!

The energy was full of joy all day long! Families enjoyed the free BBQ cookout, DJ Uneek kept the vibes high with good music, and the waffles and ice cream were definitely a 10/10 🏆! It was one of those events that reminded you how powerful community can be when people come together with love and care for one another.

I was honored to speak on such an important topic alongside Supervisor Martin, Kyle Ashley, Alderman Jackson, David Muhammad, and Brian. Conversations around mental health, especially for our babies and community, are so important right now.

Thank you to Owen’s Place for the work you do all year long, and thank you Maria for bringing everyone together and creating space for us to share what’s happening at every level of government and throughout our systems.

We will keep showing up for our babies and keep pushing for better conditions and brighter futures for everyone.

Last week, my office was back out knocking on doors and connecting directly with constituents. We started this in my first year, and over the past few weeks, we’ve made it a priority again.

Showing up in the community is everything. Not just at events or through service, but right at your doorstep, listening and learning. That doesn’t just happen when it’s time to run for reelection. It’s year-round, and that’s why we stay connected.

In my first year, I created a constituent survey so residents across the district can share their needs, ideas, and what they want to see improved in their neighborhoods. We launched it last cycle and are continuing that work now.

I truly love what I do and who I do it for. The people!

The Supreme Court just made it easier for politicians to use gerrymandering to draw unfair voting maps that can hurt Black communities and other voters in Louisiana. That means instead of you choosing your leaders, they can shape the map to choose their voters.

It is part of a bigger pattern of making voting harder for everyday people while giving more power to the wealthy and connected. We can still speak up, push for fair maps, and protect our right to vote.

Our policy agenda sets out to combat issues such as this and the many others that plague our communities right here at home.

This is disappointing to say the LEAST.

We stand with you Louisiana.

Here is our statement on the United States Supreme Court ruling on the Voting Rights Act.

Rep. Taylor got a chance to check out CDA’s 2026 Next GENeration Homes Tour and it was really something to see!

Riding through the Amani, Harambee, and Metcalfe neighborhoods and seeing brand new homes going up felt good. You can see the vision coming to life.

We also got to hear from local developers VIA Community Development Corporation, Envision Growth, Milwaukee Community Crossroads, Habitat for Humanity, and Turners Community Partners. They talked about how the homes are built, what’s inside them, and how folks can actually start the process of becoming homeowners.

We also had the chance to hear from 2 young ladies in front of their new homes tell us how their lives have changed and what the process meant to them. Thank you for sharing your story with us and with your neighbors.

On one of the stops along the tour, I spoke with some of the young men who helped build the houses. I asked them how it felt to actually build a home and work on project like this and one of them said, “Like a grown man taking care of business.” Those young men were proud and felt their purpose through this project. That is one if the unsung highlights from the entire trip!

As Alderwoman Moore said, “This is the Year of the People!”

I am grateful for the advocates and developers on the ground investing in building up Milwaukee, and Milwaukeeans. 🫡

Happy Earth Day! 🌎

Our planet is beautiful and deserves both our care and appreciation. Today is a reminder that this is our only home, providing the air we breathe and the water we depend on to sustain all life.

We all have a role to play in protecting it. Small actions, when done collectively, make a difference for our communities and future generations.

I encourage everyone to get outside, enjoy nature, and take part in the many community clean-up efforts happening this season. Join a local cleanup, pick up what you can in your neighborhood, and be part of the solution.

Let’s continue working together to keep our environment clean, healthy, and thriving.

Happy Earth Day 🌎

Given that it’s 4/20, it’s a good time to talk about where Wisconsin is at when it comes to cannabis!

Across the country, legal cannabis is already producing measurable results:

• States have brought in over $24 billion in tax revenue since legalization started
• The industry supports more than 440,000 jobs nationwide
• Billions each year are going back into schools, infrastructure, and community programs

So what could this mean for Wisconsin?

For our economy:
Legal cannabis would create thousands of jobs in farming, retail, transportation, and small businesses. Right now, a lot of that money is going to nearby states like Illinois and Michigan instead of staying here.

For farmers:
It would give Wisconsin farmers a new crop and a new source of income, helping strengthen local agriculture.

For cities and communities:
It would open up more opportunities for small business owners, especially in underserved areas, and bring in funding that can be reinvested into neighborhoods and youth programs.

For public health and safety:
• Legal products are tested and regulated instead of coming from unsafe sources
• Most studies show no clear increase in teen use after legalization
• Some research suggests it may help reduce opioid-related harm

For taxpayers:
It could lower spending on low-level cannabis enforcement and free up resources for more serious public safety needs.

At the end of the day, Wisconsin is surrounded by states that are already seeing these benefits. This is about jobs, local revenue, safer systems, and putting money back into our communities.

On 4/20 it is worth thinking about what’s already working all around us, and what Wisconsin could build right here at home.

We cannot let 414 Day pass without an honorable mention and addition to our MKE Culture.

There are MANY talents that can be highlighted, and whom I have highlighted, who attribute to our culture and have moved us . I want to highlight Eric “Shakes” James, the owner of Sneex and his commitment to the community, and to releasing some CLASSIC and ORIGINAL Milwaukee inspired and themed Adidas shoes for us! #414

You made waves the other day. You made some creative shoes and gave us more to physically to add to our hometown pride apparel.

We appreciate what you do and have done for the community through giving back, and what you add to the anatomy of Milwaukee. Thank you for loving Milwaukee, and representing what Milwaukees finest is!
