🏆 I recently had the pleasure of attending the Baraboo FFA Chapter Banquet at Baraboo High School.

I was invited to kick off the ceremony with brief remarks as a special guest speaker. Here, I talked about my connection to agriculture as someone who grew up on a family dairy farm, a Century farm, in Cashton and who serves on the Senate Ag Committee. I also discussed the importance of our state’s $116 Billion agriculture industry both economically AND as a way of life! I shared my full support for FFA and agricultural education as a meaningful opportunity for students to gain knowledge and career & leadership skills that will prepare them for whatever they choose to pursue in the future.

Thanks to the Baraboo FFA for inviting me to attend, and again, congratulations to all involved for your tremendous work and thanks to your fabulous advisor Mia Hillebrand for her hard work behind the scenes! 👏👏

🚨 Today’s TDS: Trump Destruction Summary - Economy edition.

*The U.S. National Debt just hit $39 TRILLION - surpassing the size of our entire economy. And Trump is responsible for 30% (13.5T) of our total debt!!!
{We now owe MORE than we collect as a country.}

*Interest costs on the debt so far in fiscal year 2026 have been the SECOND largest spending category for the federal government. (More than Medicare, Medicaid or National Defense!!!)

A few other statistics:
*Our GDP growth rate in the first quarter of 2026 is just 1.6% (Average is 3.1%).

*Our inflation rate went from 2.7% in 2025 to 3.8% in 2026!!

BUT… Trump has nearly tripled his own net worth from approximately $2.34 billion in 2024 to an estimated $6.5 billion in 2026.

*Since the One Big Beautiful Bill was enacted under Trump, the Gini coefficient, a measure of wealth concentration, is at 60-year highs, indicating a significant increase in wealth disparity!!

*The net worth of America's top 1% reached a record share of nearly 32% in the third quarter of 2025, while the bottom 50% held ONLY 2.5% of overall net wealth. 😳

So… As each of us struggle with the cost of gas, grocery prices, healthcare premiums and managing our family budgets, Trump calls the affordability crisis a “hoax.”

Now that’s what’s DERANGED!!

MAGA is NOT a party of fiscal responsibility and we need to be very clear about this despite the relentless propaganda!!

“The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” - George Orwell’s book 1984.

📝 I attend a lot of meetings… and, thankfully, I gain insights at each of them.

Dane County Executive, Melissa Agard held the first State of the County address in Madison recently and spoke about their accomplishments, challenges and goals. I particularly appreciated hearing about their economic development efforts and justice system reforms.

U.S. Representative, Mark Pocan, recently visited Reedsburg Library and spoke to concerned constituents about a variety of issues. He answered questions about our economy, tariffs, ICE, healthcare, corruption and the security of our elections - among other important topics. Much of the discussion was rather gloomy, but he did remind us that everyday we are one day closer to Trump being out of office.😁

💬 I received an unfavorable comment tonight on my post from two days ago - a picture of a farm field that had a sign that said “Not all Farmers Support Trump.”

So, as I try to do, I spent some time writing up a response to share my perspective.

Interestingly, when I posted my reply, the comment had been removed and it couldn’t be displayed… so, I’ll post it here instead. 🙂

🤓I LOVE to learn… so I am proud to have been chosen as one of just 39 lawmakers - three each from twelve Midwestern states and three more from Canada - to receive a fellowship to attend The Council of State Governments’ Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD) in Madison, WI!

Participants are chosen through a competitive, nonpartisan selection process aimed to “identify and assist promising state leaders” with a curriculum designed to develop leadership skills and analyze a variety of public policy issues.

Now that our regular legislative session is over, I am working hard to make this time as productive as possible and prepare for the next session. I am committed in my efforts to meet the needs of my constituents by working to learn more about the issues specifically affecting the Midwest, collaborating with others to brainstorm and exchange innovative ideas, and dig deeply into research on potential policy solutions.

I am really honored and excited for this conference in July!

Wisconsin State Senator Sarah Keyeski awarded fellowship to attend acclaimed Midwestern leadership institute

(Lombard, Ill.) May 19, 2026 — State Senator Sarah Keyeski was among 39 select lawmakers chosen to participate in a training program that annually identifies and assists promising state leaders in the Midwest.

Senator Keyeski will meet with fellow lawmakers from Wisconsin, 11 Midwestern states, and three other Canadian provinces on July 17-21 in Madison, Wis., for The Council of State Governments’ 31st annual Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD).

“The Bowhay Institute is one of the premier leadership training programs in the nation,” says Iowa Sen. Amy Sinclair, who serves as co-chair of the institute’s steering committee. “The legislatures in the region have benefited greatly from the skills their members have gained through this unique educational experience. Many of the graduates now hold key leadership positions in their state.”

Since 1995, more than 1,000 lawmakers have graduated from the Bowhay Institute. State and provincial legislators from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Saskatchewan are chosen to participate through a competitive, nonpartisan selection process. Members of the Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario legislative assemblies are selected by their caucuses to take part in the program.

BILLD was founded in 1995 to help new legislators meet the demands of increased policy responsibility being shifted to the states and, in many states, term limits and high legislative turnover. These two emerging forces highlight the shortage of training available for legislators — a void that BILLD aims to fill.

A program of The Council of State Governments’ Midwestern O􀆯ice, the 2026 BILLD program will include courses and seminars conducted by policy experts, Midwestern legislative leaders, and professional development trainers. In addition to curriculum designed to develop leadership skills, the program analyzes a variety of public policy issues.

The Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development is named in honor of the late James Bowhay, longtime director of The Council of State Governments’ Midwestern O􀆯ice. The program is funded through grants from foundations and corporate sponsors and an in-kind contribution from The Council of StateGovernments’ Midwestern Office.

Founded in 1933, The Council of State Governments has national headquarters in Lexington, Ky., and regional offices in Atlanta, Chicago (Lombard, Ill.), New York City, and Sacramento. The goal of the national, nonpartisan organization is to assist and advance state government by providing research assistance, professional development and educational opportunities, interstate consulting services, and public policy trends analysis.

🇺🇸 Today I had the honor of joining VFW Post 1916 in a march to Greenwood Cemetery in Reedsburg where community members gathered for a ceremony to remember our fallen Veterans.

I was also delighted to be invited to Lime Ridge and march with VFW Post 3434 to their local cemetery to honor those we have lost.

The patriotic band music, the three volley gun salute, and the playing of Taps rang throughout the hills.

And at each, I shared what Memorial Day means to me and ended by asking that we carry our gratitude beyond Memorial Day:

“May we always remember the fallen.

May we never overlook the sacrifices they made for our country.

May we live in a way worthy of the price they paid.

And may we hold close the families who carry both the pride and the pain of that sacrifice every single day.” 🇺🇸

🌪️ After assessing damages from the severe storms we got in April, Wisconsin Emergency Management and FEMA recently determined that there is more than $27 million in damages. In response, Gov. Evers announced today that he formally requested a disaster declaration from President Trump so our state can receive federal assistance for recovery efforts.

Many communities across the state were hit hard by these storms, including many in Senate District 14, and would benefit greatly from this help. In District 14, Juneau, Sauk, and Vernon Counties are among the counties that the Governor has requested receive FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program and FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

Previously, President Trump and his administration have DENIED Wisconsin help with recovery efforts necessitated by severe weather. Last summer when our state experienced bad storms and flooding, federal assistance was denied without justification, despite Gov. Evers’ repeated attempts to secure this help for Wisconsin communities.

Sadly, this does not come as a surprise. It has recently been reported that it is THREE TIMES MORE DIFFICULT for Democratic-run states to receive disaster aid compared to Republican-run states. It is abhorrent that the President is playing political games with innocent peoples’ lives just because they live in a blue state.

It is unacceptable and cruel to deny desperately needed federal disaster assistance. I’m hopeful the Trump admin does not repeat previous behavior!!
