We are happy to announce our Keynote Speaker!

Joe Maldonado has over 15 years of experience in nonprofit, philanthropy, higher education, and youth development. He serves as the Community Youth Development Program Manager at the University of Wisconsin-Division of Extension, where he coaches and guides staff throughout the state in the inclusion of young people’s voices in organizational and decision-making spaces. Joe also serves on the Fitchburg Common Council, representing one of the most diverse aldermanic districts in Dane County. Joe is married to Mariam Maldonado, is the father of Aidan, 17, Nahya, 7, and is the son of Reynaldo and Diane. He loves cycling, cooking, gardening, singing, and dancing randomly in public places.

Join our DAMA Youth Artist Apprentice Summer Program
When?: June 26, 2023, to August 10, 2023.
Where?: 5004 Allis Ave, Madison, WI 53716

DAMA Youth Artist Apprentice Summer Program 2023 Participants develop skills essential to the workplace and the tools for a successful career through creativity, confidence, problem-solving, perseverance, focus, non-verbal communication, and collaboration.
This program aimed to provide participants with the following:
Employment skills (e.g., goal setting, communication, sales/marketing).
Opportunities for career exploration
Opportunities to display artwork and receive public recognition for their work.
Exposure to career opportunities in the arts and other fields.
Opportunities to develop positive relationships with adult role models, mentors, and peers.
Improved self-esteem, pride, discipline, commitment, responsibility, and attitudes about school and the future.
Increased prosocial behavior and reduced alienation from others.

This program provided high-quality instruction in arts disciplines to BIPOC youth and justice involved youth. It addressed career, self-identity exploration, financial literacy, leadership development, and entrepreneurial aspects of the arts in a positive and supportive social setting.

The program also aimed to improve participants' self-esteem by building on their strengths, developing their leadership skills, and supporting identity and career exploration through community partnerships and self-reflection.

Youth Artist Apprentice Program Guidelines
8-week summer commitment
Youths aged 14 to 20 years old are welcome to apply.
This program starts June 26, 2023, to August 10, 2023.
Participants meet four days a week from 11:30 AM am to 3:30 PM. (Monday to Thursday)
Compensation at $15/per hour
Limited spaces
No prior art experience needed
Show up on time for work
