I had the opportunity to stop by the meet and greet for the Noxubee High Class of 1996 this weekend as they celebrated their 30th-year class reunion. Now I've tried not to make it a habit of attending class reunions as the Mayor because I don't want to start something that becomes a demand to keep up with, but because my sister Martha Dora Boyd supports everything I do, I had to do this for her.

I mean, besides, these are the people who had to see me as a little kid following them around with my cowboy boots, telling everything they did in high school, because everywhere she went, I had to go. 🤣 And this weekend, I learned that as a kid, I told everything on them 🤣🤣🤣 so I guess I'm an honorary member of this class.

When the vacant downtown building next to Khristy’s Boutique and Thrift on Jefferson Street collapsed in November from old age and neglect, Mayor Freddie Poindexter said he knew something had to be done.

Community Movie Night! Things went by so fast, and we enjoyed ourselves so much that nobody even remembered to take many photos. 😭 Shout out to our Event Operations Committee for a job well done. So many people showed up and seemed to have an amazing time. Lawn chairs were scattered everywhere 😂, and we can't forget about the food.

Starting with Z’s Desserts with Zion, from the cookies to the banana pudding, everything was simply delicious. Then we stopped by Ralph Skinner's station to taste those rib tips and BBQ wings. Next, we visited Avenue of Hope with Margaret Yates, to enjoy lemonade and Rotel nachos. After all that eating, we moved over to Brianna Hibbler’s area with shaved ice, and OMG, the chilling freeze of ice cooled us down. As the movie was ending, we savored those delicious fried chicken wings from Kymz Kitchen. Of course, Alice Bonner had the hottest station for the kids, serving up buttery popcorn throughout the event. To finish the night, we headed home with pineapples in one hand and a fork in the other, because those Vickii West pineapples were so good, we couldn’t just eat one, they were sweet and flavorful.

The lovely Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Nu Epsilon Omega Chapter, provided plenty of water to keep everyone hydrated, and special thanks to Dontevis Smith for making sure we had ice to cool the water. Thank you to everyone who attended, to our Sheriff Tedrick Liddell who stopped by to check on us, and to our amazing City of Macon Police Officers for keeping us safe from start to finish. We even had Alderwoman Beverly Hunter join us to enjoy the food and movie. Stay tuned to see what our Event Operations Committee has planned next.

Meet us tonight at 6 PM at the Noxubee Civic Center. This should be a pretty fun night of learning.
