CIVILIAN RESPONSE TO ACTIVE SHOOTER EVENTS: The Department will offer a civilian response to active shooter events (CRASE) class July 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Pitser Garrison Convention Center.

Anyone is welcome to attend the free training sessions and they do not need to register. Middle school and high school age children are welcome.

Cpl. Brad Davis will teach those in attendance what a civilian can do to survive an active shooter situation, using the ADD method - Avoid, Deny, Defend.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A reduction in the speed limit has been approved on two sections of roadway in Nacogdoches County and San Augustine and Shelby counties.

In Nacogdoches County, the speed limit on US Highway 59 South will be reduced from 75 miles per hour to 60 mph for 1.58 miles just south of the city of Nacogdoches. This change extends the 60-mph limit for an additional 1.58 miles southward toward Lufkin.

In San Augustine and Shelby counties, the speed limit on FM 353 will be reduced from 50 mph to 45 mph from the San Augustine city limits to the Shelby County line. In Shelby County, the speed limit will be reduced from 55 mph to 50 mph from the San Augustine County line to SH 87.

The Texas Transportation Commission has approved these changes after considering results of engineering and traffic study/investigations that were conducted at each location.

We would like to share that the Lufkin Zoo will be partnering with TDEM and the Texas Military Department to provide Pfizer vaccinations this coming up Saturday, June 26th. The times of operation will be from 0800-1600 hours at Pavilion 2 on the grounds of the Lufkin Zoo.

The location is open to the Public and does not require attendance to the Zoo, however The Lufkin Zoo will provide free admission to those that are vaccinated and the attached flyer provides the date for the second vaccine dose.

Polk County is under a Flash Flood Watch through Thursday afternoon and could see an additional 1-1.5 inches of rainfall through tomorrow.
A Flood Warning is in effect for Long King Creek at Livingston until this evening.
TRA is currently releasing 30,256 cfs from Lake Livingston dam.
Given the rainfall that has already fallen, a flood threat remains primarily south of I-10.
Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to continue to move east-northeast across coastal portions of SE Texas later this afternoon and evening.
